Bob Dylan removes mention of Nobel prize from website

After taking nearly a week to acknowledge award of Nobel prize in literature, sentence noting it disappears from his website

Friday 21 October 2016

Excerpt:

It took Bob Dylan the best part of a week to acknowledge that he had been awarded the Nobel prize in literature, and even then only in the most dismissive way: an update to a page on his website plugging a new collection of his lyrics. But now it appears even that paltry nod went too far for the mercurial music legend.

The simple words “winner of the Nobel prize in literature”, which appeared on the page for The Lyrics: 1961-2012, have now been removed. Bob Dylan, Nobel laureate, is once again plain Bob Dylan.

That single sentence was the sole public recognition Dylan had given to the prestigious award, announced last week in Stockholm. According to Sara Danius, the Nobel academy’s permanent secretary, attempts had been made to contact Dylan about the award via close associates of his, but he had kept silent.

He could be considered a great poet and lyricist, but he's a majorly, difficult, demanding prick and extremely unpleasant to work with.

He has no sense of self worth, was borderline agoraphobic back then and probably much worse now. I got nothing good to say about him, sorry to those who think he's some sort of god, but he's just a regular guy with a lot of problems that aren't worth dealing with to be around him. It's no mystique, he's just.... bitter.

... if I understand correctly what you mean by "no sense of self worth".

Impostor syndrome is where people of great accomplishment don't feel as if they've deserved the accolades.

not a pleasant man, but a true genius. I just judge him by his work.
I don't think his behavior is important here. He isn't alone amopng Prize recipiants who were not nice people.

Years ago (this was back in the early 70s), we used to take our dog to a large fenced-in lot on Houston and Mercer in NYC that was then designated as a dog run. One night we went late at night because we'd been out and our large pet needed to run and relieve himself. Then in comes Dylan with his dog, and we are cool and pretend not to recognize who he is. But then his dog starts pooping all over and he just stands there. So we say to him, "Excuse me, but you're supposed to pick up after your dog here--the scoops are over there." (There's a big sign with the rules for the place posted, too). He looks at us like we're not even human, gets his dog and leaves. We clean up the poop and spread lime.

Okay, so he's a kind of shit as a human being. It doesn't change my opinion of his music or cultural importance. That said, I wouldn't want to have a beer with him.

Though I like his music, I find the man extremely unlikable and self-absorbed.

He told me that anytime the band got locked in on a song Dylan would immediately drop it from the set list. He liked it musically when things were loose and a little chaotic
