Trump stews in bitterness as he’s shunned, while Hill is feted

https://www.balloon-juice.com/2016/10/21/friday-morning-open-thread-gop-abandon-whale/#comment-6069062

so glad I caught this part:
https://twitter.com/Kesha_Monk/status/789275105511759872

… What began as the expected ribbing of presidential candidates at the white-tie Al Smith Dinner Thursday turned to boos as Donald Trump described Hillary Clinton as “corrupt” at the event, which is a major fundraiser for the Catholic charities connected to the Archdiocese of New York…

… Trump was quick to take some campaign trail attacks with him to the dais at the annual dinner. He called Clinton “so corrupt she got kicked off the Watergate Commission” and lobbed his usual line that Clinton has been in politics for 30 years and accomplished little. “I can fix it, she says,” he deadpanned as the crowd’s mood noticeably shifted.

As the boos rolled in Trump wondered who they were booing. “I don’t know who they’re angry at Hillary, you or I?” he said. Someone in the crowd yelled out “you!”

Trump’s next line struck a nerve. “Here she is in public, pretending not to hate Catholics,” Trump said, referencing an apparent email exposed by WikiLeaks in which a Clinton spokeswoman seemed to joke about Catholics and evangelicals…

The Democratic nominee, for her part, poked fun at herself while also taking searing jabs at her opponent. Clinton didn’t hesitate to slam Trump for his past comments on women and his ambivalence about accepting next month’s election results.

In contrast with Trump, Clinton also made a point of acknowledging both the purpose and the history of the Al Smith dinner and closed her speech with a big-picture campaign message that was tied to the positive focus of Thursday’s Catholic fundraiser…

this whole campaign has been. Uptight, angry old white many stirring up anger and resentment and damn he looks the part here in the pic! And then there's Hillary, confident, smiling and at ease among fellow humans.

Thanks for posting this, it really is worth a thousand words.

Lawrence O'Donnell slammed Trump with the idiotic child tantrum style politics by admitting Trump would never be invited to gatherings like this. Oh snap.... he's jealous Hillary can walk in and out of functions like this with ease and not a moment of looking uncomfortable. Seems the "elite' of NY can't stand the son of a bitch.

is that Trump looks like he may have serious health problems. He definitely looks like he's in real pain. I surehope he doesn't have the sniffles again. In contrast, Hillary looks energetic and vivacious. I hope he made it to the car all right after the dinner. Maybe he forgot to take his "performance enhancing medication" before the event.

The Cardinal held the chair for Hillary. She made quite an impression with the audience - with her contrast to Mr Trump.

Maybe she can bring this country together?

...or display his typical blather and bullshit. I think he actually could have somewhat redeemed himself, but instead, went for his typical overbearing bully, which did NOT play well. I suspect tRump always felt like he didn't quite fit in with NYC's old money, and that may have driven some of his past brash bravado, but now, the old money is quite aware tRump does not fit in with them. tRump just proved to a roomful of the wrong people what a classless vulgarian he truly is. I suspect the tRump family is going to discover many doors are no longer open to them as they previously were. I suspect there will definitely be an element of shunning.

Oblivious to the fact that most of the people on the dais looked like they wanted to throttle him. Even if he wasn't such a nasty a-hole, his extreme self-involvement makes him a complete bore.

Did he make even a small gesture to compliment the work of the charity? That's standard for speakers at these fundraising events (and a no brainer).

Possibly I was distracted by Maria Bartiromo's continual texting and dangly earrings.

In any case, talking warmly about Al Smith being nominated by the Democratic Party ("my party" as she put it) to be the first Roman Catholic to get the presidential nom -- that was Hillary.

Discussing the crapload of anti-Catholic bigotry that went on display (the Holland Tunnel was a Papist plot to give the Pope access to ruling America once Smith was elected, among other juicy tidbits), that was left to Hillary to subtly indicate that mindless bigotry is nothing new.

Noting the multi-ethnic elites of New York gathering in goodhearted unity to support the work of Catholic Charities -- well, that was Hillary draining the poison out of the room.

On consideration, she could have completely ignored Trump instead of giving him a few quick jabs. He had already wrecked the entire occasion -- and by the time she had finished her piece, everyone in the audience was crystal clear about who was really on their side, and who was the barbarian growling and beating his chest.

when Obama roasted him during the correspondent's dinner.

I hope no one is underestimating him. He's wounded. He's angry.

He has a lot of people who love him, who believe everything he says, and who are quite willing to follow him over the cliff.

Poor Donald, he wanted to be King. He wanted the state dinners. He wanted to be able to grab whatever pussy he wanted, when he wanted it.

Now he's facing the prospect of losing everything.

He's dangerous. Make no mistake.
