Rant regarding a cruel, mindless, orange Buffoon

Most of us see Trump for the carnival side show he is. It’s virtually impossible to not see it. Yet his followers, his Trumpites, seem to be blind to his ignorance, his arrogance, and the danger to our country that he presents.

I suppose they idolize him because he has tapped into and confirmed the racism and bigotry of some of them, and the economic distress that many of them are experiencing. For the most part, they are people who lack self-awareness and respond to a demagogue who gives them someone to blame for just about everything. They can’t see that they are following a man who cares about absolutely nothing on this planet except himself, his own needs and his own wellbeing. They don’t understand that he will do absolutely anything to be in a position of power and adored. They just don’t get that he’d hold a rally and bite the heads off live chickens if he thought he’d be idolized for doing so.

We all know how we got here. How a narcissitic sociopath became the GOP nominee for president. Trump is the natural outcome of many decades of Republicans peddling coded hatred, bigotry and lies. All he had to do was drop the code and loudly spew out their agenda through a megaphone.

This era in American history will be remembered by future generations, many of whom will treat it with a WTF attitude. It will be hard for them to understand how so many bought into the ravings of a manchild/fool who is a fugitive from an alternate reallity. For a moment there, it actually seemed as though he could end up in the White House.

Instead one of the most prepared candidates in history, will be taking over the reins of power. And while Trump fades into the background, ignored and irrelevant, Hillary will prepare for four years of doing battle with GOP intransigence.

Even after Trump is gone, Republicans will continue their obstruction of any and all Democrats. But Trump has weakened their brand, and in the not too far future, they too will fall into oblivion and hopefully will be replaced by a rational opposition party. In the meantime, we have to be at least partially grateful that we survived the Chinese curse which states: “May you live in interesting times.”
