Donald has an extensive business relationship with Russian oligarchs. That said, it seems improbable that they would want someone as unpredictable and volatile as tRump being president. They may well see him as a tool, but not as a political tool that has its finger on the nuclear button.
Russia is one country that does not want to be the focus in a world war. Their experience in World War Two decimated them even though they were on the victorious side. It was a massively costly victory for them, untold millions died in Russia and they have not forgotten for one second their vulnerabilities then or now. That is one of the driving factors in their pursuit of a buffer zone of land around their country and their need for sea access, thus their Syrian policy.
The most important thing for them is stability in the world powers that can influence their future. While they see NATO as a nuisance if not a threat, NATO will not attack them and they know it. NATO has kept Europe stable, this matters. Donald threatens NATO formulation if not existence. Not good for Russia, even if they complain.
They want and need the rational HRC in the Oval Office, not a narcissistic screwball who lives in a fantasy world of his own bankrupt design.
The hacking is serving at least two purposes. One, it tweaks our national sense of what we believe of our selves. Sort of a see we can mess in your world too, see how you like it. Two, it is a Trojan horse attack in the sense that it's goal is not what it seems. Hidden within the apparent support of tRump is the real, nuanced, scheme of undermining the Donald by making it appear he is a puppet of Putin. Think of the Russian dolls, one inside the other.
The clumsy nature of this hack and the ease with which it was exposed should tell us more about it than not. The whole thing is worthy of a Robert Ludlum novel.

Besides the fact that using the wikileaks conduit likewise underscores the absolute hatred Assange has for Clinton.
