NORTON: The Internet Really Did Break Today, and Here's How it Happened

The Internet Really Did Break Today, and Here's How it Happened

Starting in the early hours of Friday October 21st, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack flooded one of the largest DNS server companies in the world, bringing half the Internet to a screeching halt.

It began when the east coast experienced difficulty accessing a slew of major, well known websites and services. When trying to access these sites, users were greeted with slowness as well as an “unable to reach server” page, denying them access to the website.
What is a DDoS Attack and How is it Done?

When you hear about a website being “brought down by hackers” it means that it’s become the target of a DDoS. Oftentimes, a DDoS attack will utilize what is called a botnet. A botnet is a network of computers, phones, and even connected home devices that have been infected with malware and are then controlled by the botnet’s owner. .........

that the Chinese have the ability to bring down our power grids at will. The internet attacks won't stop. And repugs argue against the much-needed massive upgrade of our infrastructure.

Of course they do. It would interfere with the cash they funnel to their owners and overlords, not to mention
the table scraps they'll steal for themselves to supplement the bribes they take.

Analogy is go to library and all the phone books are taken, so you can't turn a name into a number.

Blame the Internet of Things for Destroying the Internet Today

A massive botnet of hacked Internet of Things devices has been implicated in the cyberattack that caused a significant internet outage on Friday.

The botnet, which is powered by the malware known as Mirai, is in part responsible for the attack that intermittently knocked some popular websites offline, according to Level 3 Communications, one of the world’s largest internet backbone providers, and security firm Flashpoint.

<snip>

The Mirai botnet is notable and concerning because it largely consists of unsecured Internet of Things devices, such as security cameras, which cannot easily be updated and thus are nearly impossible to secure. In other words, the Mirai botnet is growing rapidly and cannot easily be stopped.

In a statement sent to Motherboard, Flashpoint also reported seeing “Mirai attack commands issued against Dyn infrastructure,” but also warned that “it is not yet clear if other botnets are involved.”

I went to JPR to read what’s REALLY going on. Some enlightening comments here:

“DOS attacks correspond with Ecuador Embassy attack. Too coordinated. Too coincidental. Too massive. Fascist pigs!”

“The desperation is palpable. Pretty obvious that the DDOS and the Assange situation are linked, and it thus follows that the US government is the source of the DDOS.”

“I imagine it's site-specific, with a few other major ones thrown in to make it look like it’s just a major, haphazard attack. So proud that this tiny, nearly-brand-new site has been included.”

“If the DNC wasn't scared, they wouldn't be doing this shit.”

“Idiotic is the only word that comes to mind to describe Assange’s penchant to announce beforehand what he plans to release. Had he just released whatever he has on Brazille and Kaine without the announcement, I’m willing to bet the internet would not be under attack today.”

“Yet access to "the DUmp" is just fine. Hmm … imagine that.”

Along with the above, the other top CTs on JPR today are: Assange was scooped-up in the middle of the night and is on his way to the States, OR Assange has been assassinated by … wait for it … Pamela Anderson, who recently visited him and brought him a vegan sandwich that was apparently laced with poison.

They say you "can't make this shit up" - but if you do, you'll find a captive audience on JPR that's willing to believe every word of it.

There was a long thread on that recently. Many were saying we will have World War III soon.

It's gotten to be like Alex Jones's site.

... is that Wikileaks is about to expose massive crimes committed by Obama and HRC, so Obama is going to declare war on Russia as a "distraction" from the bad publicity.

I guess that blows my theory that the ghost of Bea Arthur poisoned him with an arsenic laced chicken leg.
