Deplorable's Night Out - Cracker Barrel Edition

http://thebitchywaiter.com/2016/10/waitress-receives-note-with-ridiculous-advice-instead-of-a-tip.html

Transcript, as the napkin is a bit tough to read-
Heres your tip:

The womans place is in the home. You’re place is in the home. It even says so in the Bible. You may think that your contributing to your household by coming into work, but your not. While your in here “working” this is the reason your husband must see another women on his way home from a long day at his work. Because you should be home taking care of the household duties. You may think what you are doing “working” is right, it is really essentially a disgrace to his manhood and to the American family. So instead of coming to your “job” and looking for hand out’s to feed your family, hows about going home and cleaning your house and cooking a hot meal for your husband and children, the way you’re husband and God intended, and help make America great again. Praying for families and our nation.

Love,
The Watley’s

Retort from the good folks at "The Bitchy Waiter"

Learn how to spell.
Enough with the Bible thumping. You can have your beliefs, but it does not mean everyone has to share them.
It’s 2016, Mr and Mrs. Watley. Women can do whatever they want, including working.
I bet Mrs. Watley has missionary sex once a week with her husband and she looks at it as a chore, just like doing laundry, scrubbing the floors and making a roasted chicken every Friday night.
Why are the words working and job in quotes? WAITING TABLES IS A REAL FREAKING JOB!
If God intended women to stay home and cook meals and clean house, then why did He give them brains enough to realize that is total bullshit?
Make America Great Again? It suddenly makes sense. Making America great again, for some people, means going backwards in time.

Why is Mrs. Watley spending her husband's hard earned money on a night out when she could just cook for him?

Found the original post on Facebook and the woman who posted it (friend of the waitress), added this comment-

So here's my reply:

Dear lovely guest,

You cannot demean a worker that provides a service that you enjoy. Without my coworker, myself, and the countless others females in the service industry, you and others with your same mindset would not enjoy the "excellent service" that we provide. May I ask why you were eating out, instead of eating the nice meal that your wife obviously must have prepared for you at home?

Do you write this lovely note to every female server you have? Every woman who is a single mom supporting her children? Every woman whose husband has passed away and is struggling to make ends meet? Every military wife who is trying to pay bills while her husband is away? And God-forbid, every woman who enjoys working? How dare they, what an outrage! Your server makes $2.13 an hour, and deserved to be paid for the service she provided for you. To someone who comes from a generation that often complains that those younger than him have everything handed to them, you seem awfully entitled.

Sir, you have no idea about the life your server lives. The server you wrote this to, for example, does her job because she enjoys it, does indeed cook dinner for her boyfriend, and keeps her house immaculate. And if she didn't? There would be nothing wrong with it.

So how's about instead of writing demeaning and hurtful notes to your servers in lieu of a tip, you stay at home and save us all from the experience of waiting on you.

Sincerely,
A female server who loves her job, and doesn't give a rat's furry behind if you think it's "appropriate" for me to work.

I could never have written so polite a response. She not only works hard, has pride in herself and her work, but she has more class than most people.

because his wife is not home cleaning but out working?

And of course, women have always worked. There are women in the Bible working. Doesn't the ideal wife described in the OT sell her wares at the city gates or some such thing?

"She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar."

"She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard."

"She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and deivereth girdles unto the merchant."

While she is working, bringing in food, wine and money, "Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land."

Well, at least he's not horndogging around.

"The Bible says (fill in the blank)."

"It also says (fill in the blank, cite chap and verse)."

It has to be read critically instead of believing what Pastor Motormouth said and vaguely remembered.

That this is a sentiment shared by tend of millions of Americans, in the 21st century, is just as appalling as the message itself - and more dangerous.

I have seen the 1990 movie, although it was panned. Seems the plot is even more relevant now.

It really is a shame Natasha Richardson is no longer with us, as she would have surely enriched any such production with her warm, very heartfelt acting style.

As for the reviews at the time, I can't help but suspect that the critics simply found the content uncomfortable rather than objecting to any shortcomings in the film itself (not being an expert on cinema, I can't really say - although I found the movie just as striking as the book).

Of course, when one reads the above letter or looks at the changes in our very own GOP over the last 30 years or so, it's hard to argue with the fact that Margaret Atwood is a woman of vision.

Again, thank you for the heads up, BRDS. I don't have a Hulu subscription unfortunately; but this might just motivate me to get one.

Big hug!

(I had tried way back when they first opened up for testers but never heard back), but maybe they will consider releasing on DVD at some point. It is definitely relevant - even moreso with the GOP war on women in full swing!
