But in the 1980s and early 90s he was a partner at Stone, Manafort, Black and Atwater, a D.C. consulting firm that has some of the worlds most notorious dictators and shady characters on its client list. Unlike his former partner Paul Manafort, whose business connections to various Russians forced him out of the Trump campaign in August, Stone says he put in only one stint over there, running a parliamentary candidate in Ukraine. I figured it was time to leave when the campaign director opened his door and got shot in the face, he says.
He does have a backchannel contact who keeps him abreast of the doings at WikiLeaks, but he insists the source is neither Russian nor Republican. Julian Assange is not a Republican! And he's not working for the Russians, Stone says. But I do think the Russians have an interest in exposing things, because we are hurtling towards war. This is the new McCarthyism. In the 50s, if you were against war with the Russians, you were a traitor.

They need to examine Roger Stone and his international contacts. He has no real "soul" and will sell the US out to further his personal agenda.

(7,299 posts)His digital footprint is where the evidence of the Trump campaign's complicity with Assange and Russia can be found IMO. Stone started his career on the Comittee to Re-Elect Richard Nixon. History repeats itself in the digital age.

(9,115 posts)I did see a pic of Atwater, Manafort, and Stone together doing Campaign to RE Elect the President work, while the repugs were pulling all those Watergate election felonies.

It was just Black, Manafort, Stone then, Kelly got added later. Doyle McManus article from the LA Times here:

Sourcewatch calls B, M, S, and K "principals", and says Atwater was a "partner".
"Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly (Black, Manafort) was a Washington D.C. lobbying and political consulting firm started in 1982. In 1996, it it merged with Gold & Liebengood to form BKSH & Associates. In 2010, BKSH & Associates and Timmons and Company merged to form Prime Policy Group, a subsidiary of Burson-Marsteller Global Public Relations.[1][2]"

The BKSH group is Charlie Black and Peter Kelly merged with Skruggs and Healey.
Here's something from Al Franken's book The Truth:
" (Jack) Abramoff (College Republican National Committee Chair, 1981 - 85), (Grover) Norquist (CRNC Executive Director, 1981 - 83), and (Ralph) Reed (E.D., 1983 - 85) were following in the footsteps of Karl Rove, who had been E.D. from 1970 - 72 and national chair from 1973 - 74. Vast-right-wing-conspiracy trivia buffs might also be interested to know that Bush I henchman Lee Atwater managed Rove's first campaign for chairman." (P. 172, hardbound.)
Interesting that Ed Rollins is in the o.p. article bad mouthing Stone. Rollins, like Stone, got into hot water pulling illegal moves in New Jersey elections.
Cute little vignette from Sourcewatch's article on Charlie Black:
"Black's "ties with the Bush family go back to 1972, when he and Karl Rove were jockeying for control of the College Republicans in a campaign so dirty that George H.W. Bush, then head of the Republican National Committee, had to step in and sort matters out," reported Muriel Kane. [6]"

It's interesting to watch those different repug principal actors gouge and infight with each other, as they jockey for position and power. It's like watching piranhas snap at each other in a slow moving river. But they forget all about their differences in a split second when a normal person blunders into the water they infest.
