In fact, I still have the same black rotary phone I leased from them back in the Dark Ages. Sure, the total lease cost was ridiculous, and the extra services they provided were both well behind the curve and likewise ridiculously expensive, but the service was dependable, and there were never billing problems or constant solicitations to buy new products, and what they did, they did well. Which has not really been true of the phone service since the breakup.

Having said that, the proposed merger is not going to be a return to these idyllic days, as corporate mentality is quite different now from forty years ago. Ah, late-stage capitalism.
