By Josh Israel
In March, Mitt Romney demanded President Obama needs to level with the American public about his real agenda. But on numerous topics, Romney has refused to answer basic questions about his views, leaving voters to guess at where he stands on important issues. Romneys ambiguity appears to be a calculated strategy to avoid alienating the conservative base or moderate swing voters. If hes successful in avoiding articulating policy positions, he can market himself as the generic Republican alternative to President Obama.
Here are seven major issues on which Romney has refused to take a stand:
1. Romney wont say whether he would undo Obamas decision to end deportations of DREAM-eligible immigrants. Romney and his campaign passed up numerous opportunities over the weekend to say whether he agreed with the substance of the Obama administrations order to stop deporting some young undocumented immigrants and whether a President Romney would rescind the order, saying only, Well look at that well look at that setting as we as we reach that.
2. Romney wont say whether hed support the Paycheck Fairness Act. Romney repeatedly dodged questions about whether hed support the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill to crack down on wage discrimination and close the wage gap between men and women. His campaign didnt respond to five requests by the conservative Washington Times seeking his stance on the bill.
3. Romney wont specify which tax loopholes hed close. Asked yesterday which tax deductions he would eliminate to offset his massive proposed tax-cuts for the rich, Romney refused to offer any specifics on a plan that he has admitted is so vague it cannot even be scored, saying only, Well go through that process with Congress.
4. Romney wont say which federal agencies hed eliminate. <...>
5. Romney wont say whether he supports the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. <...>
6. Romney wont say whether hed support full reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. <...>
7. Romney wont say whether say whether hed eliminate the carried interest tax break for private equity partners. <...>
Whether or not Romney can continue to campaign while avoiding taking a position on so many important issues depends on the how the media reacts. There are dozens of reporters following Romney every day. They can choose to either give him a pass on these important policy issues or continue asking him until he provides an answer.

(25,699 posts)Maybe that's Rmoney's strategy; he figures if he has nothing to say, Obama won't have anything to take him down with.

(35,392 posts)the rapid-fire machine-gunning of the debate would be "where does he stand? We don't know anything about his position!"
After all the background checks on Obama's kindergarten drawings and the "subliminal messages" he put in them (which apparently showed his KENYAN MUSLIM agenda), the Repugs had the nerve to say "We don't know anything about him ..."

(22,308 posts)Just off the top of my head....
"Gov. Romney, If President Bush's policies didn't cause the economic collapse and my (President Obama) economic policies didn't cause the recovery then why should anyone vote for a candidate based on his/her economic policies? It seems that you think they don't make any difference anyways."
Or...
"If President Bush's policies did cause the collapse and my policies did cause the recovery then shouldn't everyone vote for more recovery instead of voting for another collapse?"
Rmoney is trying to set up a win-win by not taking a stand. There is a flip side to that coin.

(25,406 posts)If he refuses to answer he will look like a dick. And Obama will be able to say snidely something like "I guess my opponent hasn't put that issue through his etch-a-sketch yet".

(25,699 posts)And it will be exactly what Bush did when debating Kerry.
He will answer a different question that only exists in hish ead.
And the media will eat it up.

(1,831 posts)And well worth noting in terms of his maneuvering, posturing, and dodging.
I am afraid of the direction this country will take with Romney as CIC. Our country's imperialistic policies, invasions, and excursions are already leading us further in a direction away from enlightenment and peace. His leadership, along with the existing industrial complex, could spark a global conflagration that would cost our next few generations much more than a pile of bad debt.
And if he nominates Condi as VPOTUS?
I shudder...

(441 posts)Rmoney is obviously anti-women's rights, anti-immigrants, anti-environment, anti-workers rights, anti-working families, pro-plutocracy, pro-plundering,etc., ad nauseum.
How anyone could doubt this is beyond my comprehension.
ANY candidate that has the Rethuglican brand stands for all of the above, and more.

...how on earth will he achieve job creation given his fascination with "WaWas" (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002825141)?
This should be used in an ad:
