(14,537 posts)he is the voice of the uncommon man; the racist, fascist, xenophobic, sexist pigs that have been encouraged and courted by the republican party for decades. On election day we will find out just how many of them there are in this country.

(45,806 posts)gave him a thousand+ hours of coverage, that he managed to win the primary, and sell himself to a lot of easily maneuvered people. THOSE are his voters now. They aren't the REAL "Common Man"!

(35,015 posts)According to Adorno's theory, the elements of the Authoritarian personality type are:
*Blind allegiance to conventional beliefs about right and wrong
*Respect for submission to acknowledged authority
*Belief in aggression toward those who do not subscribe to conventional thinking, or who are different
*A negative view of people in general - i.e. the belief that people would all lie, cheat or steal if given the opportunity
*A need for strong leadership which displays uncompromising power
*A belief in simple answers and polemics - i.e. The media controls us all or The source of all our problems is the loss of morals these days.
*Resistance to creative, dangerous ideas. A black and white worldview.
*A tendency to project one's own feelings of inadequacy, rage and fear onto a scapegoated group
*A preoccupation with violence and sex

(14,856 posts)Trump is an attention whore, and he found a way to generate a rabid audience.
Look up his past pro-liberal comments. Did he have a change of heart? Doubtful. He was simply empty of any beliefs beyond an insatiable need for attention.
Banks in this country stopped loaning him money. There's been several links to Russia, with some links to funding by Russian oligarchs (per ABC a few weeks ago) and more recently a server that was apparently linked directly to a Russian bank.
Roy Cohn, an old Trump ally, said that (paraphrasing) Trump had no need for him after he became sick. Trump has no loyalty to anyone but himself and the people who are currently helping him (or stroking his ego).
Meanwhile, Russia loves that Trump is fomenting conflict here. That's their part in it. EDIT: And they're being very short-sighted about it. Trump would turn on them in a heartbeat if he sensed they were no longer kissing his butt.

(53,056 posts)Note that Trump's support is among white voters without a college degree. One shouldn't need a college degree to know civics and be able to fact check. The idea that Trump stands for anyone but himself is ludicrous, and that millions buy his bullshit says something truly disturbing about our population. They picked him out of all the other Republicans, some very conservative and some more moderate, but none as disgusting and narcissistic as Trump. Those voters chose a reality TV celebrity because they don't care if government functions. They don't care about international relations. The only thing they care about is their rage at women and people of color. They want to restore white male dominance. We live in a racist, misogynist country. From the cradle, Americans are taught racism and sexism. They haven't learned to confront that in themselves, and a candidate comes along who appeals to the basest level of the American psyche. He is very much like a fascist in that regard, only he has no ideology or state model. Instead, he cares only about aggrandizing and enriching himself. Trump knows how disgusting those Americans are because he is one himself. Despite his wealth and abundance of opportunity, he acts and speaks like someone who hasn't finished high school. 'His supporters like that. Most importantly, they want to channel their frustration into hatred of the others. That hatred is not incidental to Trump's appeal: it IS his appeal.
Results from FL show that 28% of Republicans are voting for Clinton. Decent human beings do not vote for Trump. They may disagree with Clinton, despise her even, but they know that Trump foments the worst kind of hatred. This election is not about ideology. It's about basic decency. Conservatives of principle are voting for third party candidates, writing in names, or voting for Clinton. There is no excuse for voting for Donald Trump. It is absolutely unacceptable, regardless of ideology or party affiliation. He's not a real conservative anyway. He's a narcissistic hate monger.
