A few observations from yesterday, 6/18/2012 outside the romney rally

First thing was I finally met another DUer, Rurallib and a few of his compatriots. They were standing under a tree just outside the park. And wisely so, I'd say because it was hot out there. Anyway, I later walked over to a van which was sitting in the parking lot which had numerous stickers on it illustrating the romney 1% sympathies and stating "Romney, President for all the 1%" or words to that effect. Turns out it belonged to a moveon member and she invited me over to their group, an invitation which I accepted.
So we all stood outside the designated park entryway and engaged people in conversation. Or at least listened to people make disparaging remarks about our "socialist" and/or "communist" leanings. Hell, one guy even stopped, looked at several signs, and said (somewhat predictably), "Why the hell don't you socialists go to China where you'll be welcome?" I tried to tell him that I've actually been to China and it is nowhere near socialism. It is a flat out dictatorship, kinda like the repukes want, but he was already walking away by that time. We had a good laugh over that one.
I was holding a sign which said, "Corporations are not people", which one of the ladies from moveon graciously gave me and a guy walked up to me and asked, "Do you like your sign?" I said, "Yes I do and it is the truth." He said, "Do you understand what it says" I said, "Of course" and as I was getting ready to explain things to him, he said, "Well you know corporations are feeding your fat ass right?" I started to say something but he walked away. A couple of members chased him and tried to engage him in conversation and I wandered over to him and tried as well. That's when the cop said, loudly,"Hey. Break it up! You know not to do that in front of me!" He was looking directly at me when he said that shit. I was going to say something to him but thought better of it and walked away. Probably for the best because a clown like that can't be reasoned with anyway.
Finally, the bus carrying mittens went by and we all rushed up to the road, held up our signs and booed loudly. Romney was sitting in the front window and likely saw us even though he was looking the other way, no doubt because his handlers told him to. One more thing, a member of our group tried to enter, lawfully as is his right (or so we thought) and was told no. The guy at the gate told him, "We don't want YOU people" in here. I guess they are scared of the truth, like all repukes. Anyway, thank you all for your indulgence at this attempt at wrtiting and peace to you all. Keep up the good fight for Obama.

I put my observations on blogforiowa last night.
I still think it is hilarious that Mitten's speech was right next to the gambling boat - so,so fitting.

Slick Willard Raw Money's campaign events are only attracking the worst of the worst fat, ugly, bigotted racist pigs in America...it does not look like thousands and thousands of supporters are going to see him....its a joke of a campaign...and Obama really hasn't even started yet.

Sorry. I should have clarified. But a meeting with ryan and walker? Sounds vomit inducing to me.

We discussed going in anyway but we decided that we didn't want to give the impression that we supported him. I suggested we ditch the signs and go in anyway. Then stand with our middle fingers extended as a group. It was shot down.
Probably for the best. They may have beaten us to a bloody pulp.

Maybe a few more, maybe a few less. It's a big park and they had everybody in front toward the stage (far away from us). But having attended many events in the park, I've seen around 10,000 for concerts and such, and I can tell you this was nowhere near that. Not even close.

They scream their views aloud, then turn and walk away because they know they can't argue beyond washed-up talking points. Michelle Malkin has taught them well in her harpy skills.

openly strapping guns to their waist the GOP would call foul and claim that they are there to hurt Mittens.

I Remember at Pres O's rallies or functions the goppers coming around with guns and the GOP praised them stating "2nd Amendment"

But I must admit Democratic protesters do have more class tho.

Anywhere. And I'm in Red Town USA.

The enthusiasm gap - the haters hate, but they can't quite get behind their nominee. I predict a fairly wide win in November.

I was talking to a couple of Republicans last week and they said that they weren't impressed with Romney.

Colorado to Michigan to Massachusetts (across I-80/I-90), back to Colorado via Ohio (I-70). I saw:

22 Obama 2012 bumper stickers
4 Ron Paul bumper stickers
2 Romney bumper stickers

I'm thinking it's not boding well for the Mittster.

Edited to add: most of the Obama stickers were not in the Northeast, oddly enough!

I've seen only Obama stickers, signs, etc., and one Ron Paul yard sign. But then, Indy is kind of a blue dot in a red state.

But thank you for the compliment. At no time were we ever in danger, even when the cop yelled at us.
And I suspect you are correct when you say that the campaign will get nastier. Who knows what kind of goonishness the 1% may try to pull?

In just under 2 weeks, one of the best Blues Festivals in the USA is taking place at the park where ol' mittens appeared. Let's hope the stage is disinfected before then. Hate to see any poison rub off on the performers or the audience.
