The corn is NEVER labled where I shop. I can tell you where the potatoes, apples, strawberries, tomatos, cabbage, brusselsprouts, oranges, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cantelope and grapes come from, but the corn is just thrown in a bin with a price sign, and never an origin lable, let alone a GMO tag.

4. If it has a 4 digit PLU beginning with 3 or 4, it is conventionally grown (poisons, pesticides)...

The lead digit (0) is left off on a 4 digit code. A five digit code beginning with 8 is GMO and five digits beginning with 9 is organic. See http://www.plucodes.com/ for more information.

11. Well the PLU is just a little oval sticker. Most stores use them now. It should be on the sign.

15. It should still be on the sign. If it isn't, complain to the manager.

Most people don't know what the PLU codes mean, but they are consistent throughout the country (and have to be registered). Mostly all they mean is that the checkout person who doesn't know what broccoli is can just punch in the code. And yes, I had one who didn't know what broccoli was. Wegman's makes you weigh and enter the PLU on your own and the scale prints out a barcode label to stick on the bag. I like taking a single item of something up to the checkout to see if they have the slightest clue what it is without the barcode sticker. A lemon was one such item I had to explain to one of them.

and has said for years that "Monsanto is evil and must be destroyed."

(And now that I'm thinking about it, this is the best joke she has told me...

Johnny was a Chemist's son, but Johnny is no more...What Johnny thought was H2O, was H2SO4.

Thought that was kinda funny the first time I heard it, thought I'd share...)
