I go there because I want to know precisely what they're saying about this issue or that person. Unlike some here I do think the freeps are representative of millions and millions of repukes. I actually think one can learn by riffing through the posts there. Are they getting on board with Romney? What issue will the tea party hone in on? How much of a role does racism play with regards to the President? (A fuck of a lot).
I wish I just believed that they were just the stereotypical teenager in the basement eating cheetos, but I think they're representative of the base of the repuke party.

(5,624 posts)Freep are repeated there. Freep is a pretty accurate representation of the GOP base, IMO. They're the most vocal ones, but the rank and file feel the same way but don't express it as loudly.

(5,937 posts)that is also what has become of the majority of tea party supporters, so that any common ground becomes impossible. I say this as a former republican, it is also what worries me about the extremism and equally inflexible nature of the far left. So I am a democrat now, and intended to stay that way, I favor capitalism with sensible regulations, a firm safety net, a revised tax code, non interventionist, reasonable immigration policy, serious look at drug law, personal freedom of choice, be it abortion, 32 soft drinks, also getting government out of peoples bedrooms, marriages. Pretty centrist to sum it up, but increasingly harder to find on the right. So here I am. Against the ACA mandate, but not the premise, would support loosening medicaid eligibility to pick up the ininsured who would have no way of paying for ANY health insurance, much less a penalty for not carrying it. Support incentives to move industry back to US, like subsidizing health care cost for employees of major factories and plants that move back to US, among other creative incentives. There is more, but I have to get back to work.

(11,366 posts)I would venture that most of us wanted a public option instead of health INSURANCE regulation, but regulation is what we got.
The problem with your premise is this: without the mandates, the prescribed (no pun intended) service of mingling healthy people with sick people to bring down costs won't work. I think most of us would agree that it's sad that we, as a country, have been so bullied by the insurance industry that we keep having to fund them, but the basic premise of mandates, in this case, is necessary.
BTW, I think the ACA DOES pick up more of the uninsured who have no way of paying for it, while still providing subsidies in the form of tax breaks for those who can't QUITE afford it without the subsidies.
In any case, most of your positions aren't "centrist." They're very much liberal.

(14,180 posts)have to charge you with engaging in false equivalence there. There has been no meaningful 'far left' in this country since the late 40s, when HUAC and then McCarthyism smashed it. I wish there were a vibrant and robust 'far left' here and its rennaiscance may still happen in my lifetime. But I'm not holding my breath.
As one example, the Peace and Freedom Party-endorsed candidate for California Senator, Marsha Feinland, received only 1.2% of the vote in the June primary, running against a troglodyte liek Feinstein and even more reprehensible specimens for the Repigs. And Feinland is only moderately left, not 'far left.'

(9,933 posts)Same with my brother, cousins, uncle. My sister is a Ron Paul nut. (Equally loathsome in my mind) They are suddenly all offended about drones, believe the president is building camps for dissenters and is already confiscating cash and gold.
They think that liberals are on a massive spending spree making the government huge, that hyper inflation is right around the corner, and that while forwarding me every vile, bigoted piece of email about the administration that liberals are racists for bringing up race.

(42,770 posts)advent of the internet, there is now a general belief that everything on the internet is BS.
Everything on CNN and MSNBC is BS and slanted and untrue. So, you can never prove the BS THEY
say is wrong. Fox promotes this attitude too. They are always running stories about how
the internet is a bad thing. That's part of the plan - to keep people from researching their BS
so they and Rush can spew unfounded shit and propaganda. My father in law refuses to let
his tv land on MSNBC, like it will blow up if it does

Watching the money is far more important than the howlings of the powerless fuckwits that think they are next in line for membership in the 1%, theocrats, cowards, and a bunch of racists.
When was the last substantive surprise or insight gleaned from these fucks?
Nothing wrong with peeking in on them and making some fun or highlighting their shitty character but let's not pretend it is a learning experience unless one has a highly limited and rather naive imagination.

"All we have to do is replace Obama. ... We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. ... We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don't need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate."
I guess rMoney fits as this kind of "leader." He will do as he is told: Sign here.

like this one from Monday:
No woman wants to be submissive to a weak man - she wants to be submissive to a strong man. So, for the man/woman marriage dynamic to work properly, the man must remain strong and dominant at all times (which is hard work) so that the woman will engage her naturally submissive tendencies and will be happy doing

these people are willingly brainwashed and have no firm grasp of reality. any effort to discuss is wasted with foxbots.
they need to be dealt with in terms they understand: harshness, abuse, and outright hostility.
diplomacy will not work with the current crop of extremist right wingers. they need to be shamed and humiliated before they slither back into their bircher holes.
