Kucinich Introduces HR 6200 - HAND counted, PAPER ballots - everywhere.

"I'm at the We Count 2006 Conference in Cleveland. After a break for dinner, we resumed with an address by Dennis Kucinich, D, OH. He made the remarks below and then announced that he's introduced H.R. 6200, a bill to guarantee that the 2006 election will be conducted on "hand counted, paper ballots, counted and posted at the precinct level" with the process open to all to observe. This was a real stunner. There is some legislation out there on stop gap measures but this is the whole 9 yards, the ultimate in election integrity - Machines are Gone under this legislation...GONE."

When asked why he was one of the few Democrats to take the elections issue seriously, Kucinich shot back "The exception to the rule proves there's a new rule" and got a huge round of applause.

"One of the most important meetings going on in this state maybe the country." Referring to "We Count 2006"

Two issues I hear about constantly:

- denial of access to health care 50 million Americans without health care...
Conyers-Kucinich Bill
- equal interest - "people are deeply concerned about the election process."

"You're holding the light of democracy for the whole country."

"our ability to have control over our institutions" is at risk when the procedures of elections are
controlled...

Referring to Ohio's disastrous 2004 election he said "We understand why there is such great concern"

Without free and fair elections, "everything is at risk...a cause that's so important, it's a measure of the courage of the people" who call attention to the problem.

"We have a mission to make sure that elections are on the level."

"There are lingering questions about the 2004 election and there ought to be."

"Even verified voter paper trails are not an adequate solution to safeguarding our elections."

"Distrust is a form of disenfranchisement....election integrity ... voters have a right to know that the vote cast of for the candidate that they selected."

and now Kucinich is gone. Perhaps he will continue this work without the pressure of the day job, but probably will not get anywhere without a massive movement of activists.

Everyone fell asleep after 2008...Obama won, must not be stealing elections?

It should be pretty obvious by now why they allowed Obama to win...they are blaming every fucking thing they did on him. They screwed the country over big time with their two expensive wars, Big Government programs like Homeland Security and the TSA while giving massive tax cuts. Bush had pushed for the bailouts which was just about to make everything worse. They looted the nation for their own personal greed and idiocy. Why would a Republican want to be in office and take responsibility for what they have done?

what was right. Corporate funding rules.

Maybe we should develop a new strategy, take their money, then use it against them. After that happened enough times, it might make them nervous about spending their money on buying Representatives never sure who was going to take it and use it for the interests of the people.

7. corporate funding paying the corporate media to lie to US, on OUR PUBLIC AIRWAVES!

This is what needs to stop right here, because the corporate media is controlling all of the discussion in this nation.

The FCC grants a license on OUR PUBLIC AIRWAVES with the understanding that they will serve the public interest.

Private media companies are currently using OUR PUBLIC AIRWAVES to make money for themselves, by lying and promoting whatever corporations want them to.

This is against the law and they should have their licenses revoked.

Everything we talk about on the net, most of it BS distraction stories made up by the corporate media to keep us from discussing the real problems and solutions in this country, which would mainly be raising corporate taxes so we are not in so much debt and they don't have such excessive incomes they can buy the entire media and every politician.

This all has to start with taking back the media. Everyone on DU says 'oh I don't watch TV' ..well that is not the point!

Corporate media is lying to millions of people every day, that is why we cannot have a reasonable educated discussion in this country anymore.

They are blatantly lying every day, blaming poor people and retirees for the debt when they sent all our jobs overseas so that people no longer have income, cannot pay taxes and instead need government support.

They blame social security recipients for wanting the retirement they paid into, because they borrowed the trust fund to pay for two new wars, two BIG government programs Homeland Security and the TSA, meanwhile giving out huge tax cuts.

Is this how republicans make money in their personal lives? I think anyone with common sense would find this fiscally irresponsible.

Why aren't these basic FACTS being discussed?

How can we have a honest conversation in this country without these facts being offered in the discussion?

None of this would be possible without the corrupt corporate media enabling fascism every step of the way.

A Democracy cannot exist without a free press.

8. We need to call all representatives of all parties to get them to show they want honest elections.

The Paulites claim they were screwed by the establishment GOP, their votes not counted.

FINE, let them support this measure, right now.

Democrats have a strong interest in getting their votes counted and getting the people they say they want in office. I can see no reason to NOT support this measure fully with all the charges of election fraud for over a decade.

Knowing that their votes will be counted could spur the electorate to show up and vote. Those who aren't interested, can continue to complain about the people who do vote, and vice versa.

It's a win-win for Americans of all kinds. EOM.

10. Every point of sale register and pump in the country produces a paper trail - why not voting?

The cost is minimal and probably below the radar. They don't want a paper trail because they can't rig them if they have one. Recounts are useless if all you're doing is asking the machine for the same numbers it gave you the first time you asked.
