WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) - Purdue University officials plan to vote on a candidate for the schools next president this week and WISH-TV has learned Gov. Mitch Daniels is the candidate in question.
The Purdue Board of Trustees will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday in Steward Centers Loeb Playhouse to vote on a nominee to be the schools 12th president. Several sources close to the proceedings tells WISH-TV that the nominee is Daniels. After the vote, the president-elect will be introduced, the school said in a news release.
Daniels' office had no comment Tuesday afternoon. However, sources with connections to both Purdue and the governor said it's a done deal.
It will be one more title for Daniels to add to a varied career that has included such posts as president of the Hudson Institute and vice president of Eli Lilly and Co., as well as White House political director and White House budget director.
Daniels is likely to complete his term as governor, while Purdue appoints an interim president WISH-TV political reporter Jim Shella said.

(28,017 posts)A cushy job, relatively no impact on students (few presidents ever see students these days) and smug in his knowledge that Romney is a jerk.

(17,863 posts)Please no. Can't they get another President from Iowa State or Nebraska or some other cow college. I disagree presidents wield a lot of power and can do alot of damage. It is offensive with the talent pool of administrators available to get a politician as well in my opinion (it often does not work out).
