FBI director Comey's attempt to skew the election will be the most analyzed and talked about. This electioneering by the FBI for candidate Trump is far and away the most dangerous activity to have occurred. No matter what Comey does with whatever remains of his, now sullied career, he will be remembered for his conduct during this election. History will attach to him the equivalent of the Watergate break in for having used his position as a lever to influence a presidential election. He will be in the company of villains like Dick Chaney and the lies that got us into Iraq, Reagans Contra scandal and, well, himself.
Nothing is more hazardous to a free state than an unrestrained partisan police force wielding infinite power. Power especially that can be aimed at the political. Make no mistake, if you are a republican and think that this was a fair and reasonable use of investigative prerogative, sooner than you think a democratic leaning FBI director will be in place, and that investigative prerogative will be on the other side of a now partisan FBI.
Comey has no choice but to resign. He should have done so already. It goes to his lack of honor and sense of entitlement that he hasn't. He may well have changed elections forever and he certainly changed Americas perception of the FBI. The FBI will no longer be the preeminent law enforcement agency in America. I don't know who will wear that mantle but it will no longer belong to ,the FBI. Comey and his rogue agents own the infamy of having done what no criminal group has been able to no matter how hard they tried.
Wednesday America is going to celebrate the victory of its first woman president and it is going to be every bit as glorious as the election of our nations first Africa American president. No matter to Comey, he is toast. Even if Trump had won, Comey would be trusted by no one. He has made his mark on American history and it is a blemish, a stain and an ignominious befouling of the American way.
