?resize=1280%2C720&quality=80&strip=allWomens suffrage activist Susan B. Anthony once said that There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.
With the country on the eve of possibly electing a woman to the highest office in the nation, many women are traveling to the grave of Anthony, who died in 1906, to pay tribute to the nations best-known suffragists.
Anthony is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester, NY, the same place she was arrested and later convicted of attempting to vote. The Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which granted women the right to vote, would not be passed until 1920.
I voted stickers began to show up on the headstone of Anthonys grave sometime in October, according to CNN. The stickers get removed periodically, so the number of stickers varies from photo to photo. But those seeking to pay their respects to Anthony keep showing up.

(9,350 posts)I am very happy women can vote. However, this is vandalism of a person's grave. I guess flowers would have been just as bad, but I would have preferred that people just bring flowers to her grave.

On November 8, 1872, Susan B. Anthony was arrested for illegally casting a ballot in the presidential election. More than a century later, single women are the nations most potent political force. Anthonys grave in Rochester, New York, is a popular destination for women who want to honor her memory by doing their civic duty, and according to the Democrat & Chronicle, this year the citys mayor is making it even easier to do so.
Mt. Hope Cemetery, where Anthony is buried, usually closes at 5:30 p.m., but on Election Day, itll be open until voting ends. Visiting Susan B. Anthonys gravesite has become an Election Day rite of passage for many citizens, Rochesters mayor told the paper in a press release. With this years historically significant election, it seems right to extend that opportunity until the polls close.

I'd want to pay my respect to her memory (and all her work) so I might bring flowers. But I get the sticker sentiment.
