Feinstein Statement on Steve BannonWashingtonSenator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on reports that President-elect Donald Trump will hire Steve Bannon as a senior advisor:
I became mayor of San Francisco when my predecessor was assassinatedI know how fear can tear apart a community. Today were again seeing the spread of fear, this time caused by a series of racist and xenophobic attacks.
In the last week, Muslim university students were attacked for their faith, Latino students humiliated by peers who say theyll be deported, Confederate flags and racist slurs used to intimidate African-Americans, and swastikas and Nazi propaganda spray painted on buildings. Thats not the America I know.
Hiring Steve Bannon as a senior advisor in the White House will only further inflame these fears. Virtually everyone who has contacted my office has expressed shock that Bannon, so closely linked to anti-Semitic and misogynistic opinions, will have the ear of the president.
Diverse communities must be brought together by leaders, whether its a city or a nation. We must work to heal differences, not allow them to fester and devastate our society. Being a leader means representing everyone, not just one constituency.
Im hopeful that Donald Trump will hear the millions of outraged voices and decide to surround himself with advisors who respect all Americans. Someone known for belittling minorities, immigrants and women has no place advising the president.

(27,843 posts)1. Knowing Trump, he'll just hear the words "millions of voices"
and that will be all he cares about. I wish the media had not given him so much attention early on. They created this monster.

Because all evidence says otherwise.

(24,264 posts)3. The day before she sent out a press release talking about how she was looking forward to working w/T
Trump and the GOP.
Literally the day before this.
I sent her an email and twitter rant about timing of releases like that right after Bannon was announced.
I think it's time Democrats fight Republicans the way Republicans fight Democrats.
We must make our elected reps fight this horror show in Washington.
If they won't fight then we have to replace them.
Imagine how much we could get done if Democrats were as afraid of their base as Republicans are of theirs?
