What IS porn, and what is not?
And who decides if it is or isn't?
There are groups that want to ban the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, calling it "porn."
And besides, I just recently read an article about the porn studios, they are actually hurting, to the point some have closed.
Not from moralists, from the simple fact people are making their own.

Seriously, the industry is hurting. Much like the music industry, there is so much free stuff out there that people see no reason to pay for it.
I know more than a few in the adult industry and they are trying everything they can to stay afloat.
And, by the way, this is also happening in the mainstream film industry.
Suffice it to say, the internet has changed these businesses forever and they will all have to adapt or vanish.

(9,761 posts)Here are things I find misogynistic and upsetting:
films about gang-banging the urethra and the advertising saying the actress will have to wear diapers for life now.
films about double or triple anal that advertise the actress will have to have a colostomy bag.
kiddy porn.
rape porn.
snuff films.
films that show men choking and hitting women with some force, while calling her "bitch" and "slut." Films that show men choking women with their dicks until vomiting ensues.
I do not find those films loving and respectful of women.
You don't have to agree, that's just my point of view.

(33,688 posts)are disgusting and I am as absolutist a defender of the First Amendment as walks the Earth. I grew up with Playboy back in the 1970s - and Playboy has never been porn - and view porn fairly regularly - one on one M/F no BDSM, no group stuff, no violence or anything that could remotely be called violence. I don't find those things arousing in the least. I do not like and would never consider looking at anything like that. But the human race is a broad, weird stew of fetishes, kinks and strangeness and whatever consenting adults want to do/film/watch is none of my business whatsoever.

(9,761 posts)porn like that? Or a young girl feel really horrified by a boyfriend pressuring her into those acts? Or forcing her physically into those acts?

(26,076 posts)Neither that type of porn, which is certainly not mainstream porn, nor that behavior in a relationship. Anyone who tries to force their partner into unwanted and harmful sex is an abuser. Porn does not make people into an abuser.

(9,761 posts)I found that out when I was raped by a fellow soldier.
It was a terrible feeling to not be able to do anything. You always think you can just knee them in the nuts but...in reality....not so much.

There's porn, and then there's sick fuck porn.

(16,399 posts)Just a point, in case lest anyone think this is actually being marketed somewhere by the porn industry and they are allowed to get away with it.
By the way.....what you think about a film where the woman slaps the guy around and tells him he better do this or that right or he's going to get his ass kicked? Because there's plenty of that out there, and not just in the S&M genre but what is now considered "mainstream".

(9,761 posts)to know about things like these. THAT kind of crap is what upsets me about porn, not the stuff that most consider mainstream.

A snuff film is a motion picture genre that depicts the actual murder of a person or people, without the aid of special effects, for the express purpose of distribution and entertainment or financial exploitation.[1] The existence of for-profit snuff films is generally considered an urban legend. Some filmed records of executions and murders exist but have not been made or released for commercial purposes.[2]

(31,011 posts)Then there is soft porn, hardcore porn. These days porn will have a descriptive put ahead of it such as gore, BDSM, or whatever to give it a more definitive description.
People have their own ideas and descriptions of porn that it's difficult to nail down.
I've been fairly torn about the subject because it does have a history of exploitation, abuse and other distasteful ways women are treated.
But there is a portion of the industry that is ran by women. They direct and produce their own movies. They write their own pornography and photograph as well. Women have taken hold of their sexuality and used it as they see fit rather than letting others use them.
This is a sense of empowerment where we have control over our sexuality.

(26,076 posts)Some people think PG-13 LGBT movies are porn. Or Playboy. Or music videos. It is very individual.
The porn industry is changing, like the music industry did, and the companies and actors and actresses who know how to adapt are still doing well (like music companies).

(55,476 posts)Many people here, men and women, are threatened by sex. They still carry insanity from fundamentalist Christian, Jewish, Muslim or what not.
They hate sex because they secretly hate themselves.
They probably shudder at the thought of looking at their own genitalia.
