10-year-old boy strip-searched after being accused of stealing...

Clinton, N.C. — The mother of a Clinton third-grader says a school administrator went too far when she strip-searched her child after accusations that he stole from another student.

Clarinda Cox says her 10-year-old son, Justin, a student at Union Elementary School, was ordered to take off everything but his T-shirt and boxer shorts on June 1 after a girl accused him of taking $20.

Justin told his mother that a girl dropped the money in the cafeteria and that he picked it up and gave it back to her, Cox says.

"If I felt he needed to be searched, I would have brought him into the bathroom," she said Monday. "You could have had a witness in the bathroom with me. I would have searched my son."

There is more to this story. They say the kid has had a history of lying and there are doubts about his story here.

Either way, if you're going to strip search a child, call the parent before doing it. How difficult of a concept is that? I would never want my child strip-searched without my knowledge and permission.

This pisses me off.

Don't these people have any respect for the Constitution? Or are they going to follow the example of Scalia and Thomas?

13. Constitution and school in the same sentence? This is America.

You have no rights because someone in authority says so.
Your locker and everything in it is not really yours because the Constitution stays outside the school house doors. Just ask the administrator and cops. Never mind you rent the locker and it have your lock on it, or at least paid for it. You are a student and have no rights. Strip search in the middle of the cafeteria at lunch hour? Go for it.

2. Not technically a "strip" search...

... since he was only asked to go to his underwear and t-shirt.

I'm not really in favor of strip searches in any context, but the kid was lying about the money, and I suspect the administrator knew it. If there was a witness with the administrator at the time of the search, I don't think there is anything to get worked up about.

4. Stripping a child down to his underwear is nothing to get worked up about?

Seriously?

This is a 10 year old child and it was done without parental approval or knowledge.

If the parent had been notified and present when it was done, I would not get upset about this at all.

In the age of when children are being molested and raped, this should send off warning bells. We want to teach our children and warn them about this sort of thing.

Do we tell them that it's okay to take your clothes off in front of an adult if they are a teacher?

5. You have to look at the context here...

..., don't you? I saw nothing to suggest it was sexual in any way, and I thought there were others present when the search occurred (Am I wrong about that?). I suppose the admin could have searched his pockets while he was wearing the pants, but wouldn't that introduce a whole new "uh oh" factor to the situation? Frankly, if my kid were so accused, I'd rather they got the pants off of him before rooting around in his pockets.

The kid admitted getting the $20 bill. There were other students there who saw it and told their tale. He said he gave it back, but none of these other kids saw that. Then, it turns up on the floor after the search, and it wasn't there before? I'm calling BS on the kid. The history of not being a truthful kid just seals it for me, but its not even necessary. He took the money he found, and tried to get away with keeping it. He'll probably grow up to be an investment banker one day who pays hookers to strip search him for their $20.00.

6. I don't care if the kid held up the other kid at gunpoint and stole the money...

The context does not matter.

It's stripping a child down to his underwear without a parent's knowledge or permission. That will never be okay.

No child should be subjected to that no matter the reasoning without a parent's knowledge, permission...most especially if they are not there.

Go ahead and tell your children that it's okay to take their clothes off in front of people when you're not there or without your permission. Let's see how well that goes when a sexual predator is encouraging them to do the same thing. You think a 10 year old will know the difference?

Male teacher strips 10 year old girl down to underwear.

Male teacher strips 10 year old boy down to underwear.

I do know this, if a school official stripped any of my kids down to their underwear, some one is getting their ass kicked.

12. My father was kind of crazy ... struggled in school ...

and he told me when I was in about 3rd grade ... if another kid hits you, beat his ass ... if a teacher tries to embarrass you, leave school and come home (I could walk to school), and you will not be in trouble.

He was crazy, but in this case he was right. Never let teachers or administrators dominate you, and never let other kids hurt you. If it happens, fight back or leave.

A principle paddled me and a few other kids once. I was not actually part of the fight. I tried to break it up. The principle paddled us.

My father came to school the next day. The principle was incredible nice to me from that day forward.

So if your at work and someone accused you of stealing and your boss forced you to strip down to your under wear it would be okay?
You wouldn't be okay with it and you know it so it's not okay for it to happen to a child
