I wanted to take a moment to update you on where we stand on Paul Ryan's plan to phase out Medicare and replace it with private insurance and vouchers. The short version: where we are is not good. Somewhat paradoxically, Medicare may actually be in far greater danger of being dismantled than Obamacare. More on that in a moment.

In recent days we noted that Paul Ryan and people in the Trump camp had suggested that Congress might use a single piece of legislation or at least simultaneously repeal Obamacare and phase out Medicare. It was suggested that this might happen as soon as January. That still may happen.

people have been paying into medicare their entire working lives. In retirement plans, the rules are that if you make changes they only apply from the change date forward and does not affect those already vested.

I realize it's important for republicans to harm ordinary people while making their owners rich, but this may need more than just a simple vote.

The only reason that Medicare exists is that insurance companies would not cover the elderly at reasonable rates. Anybody that expects that to change is a naive idiot or a grifter.

The Repub plan means, of course, that you'll get a $300 voucher to pay for insurance policies that cost $1500. Those are internet numbers I pulled out of my ass, but you get the drift.

get sick, use up all your resources trying to survive, and when you go broke, then you can die.
