Pawlenty and Portman

It is said (on TPM) that Romney is looking closely at Portman and Pawlenty as potential running mates.

That a very boring white guy would look at even more boring white guys is, in my opinion, correct. Romney does not want to attract attention. At all. None.

He wants the election to be Obama versus Generic Other Candidate.

And Romney/Pawlenty is about as generic as it gets.

He thinks he already has Florida stolen and OH is more important than Minnesota electorally. He's counting votes in the electoral college.

The theory of the campaign (which may well be correct) is that if Romney avoids self-destructing he will probably win.

McDonnell would generate controversy on the women's rights front and any controversy is unacceptable risk.
