San Jose City Council approves $15 an hour minimum wage

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - San Jose City Council voted on Tuesday to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by January 1, 2019.

"Raising the minimum wage will provide a significant boost for the thousands of hard-working families in our community who are struggling to keep up with the extraordinarily high cost of living in Silicon Valley," said Mayor Sam Liccardo. "By moving forward together with many of our neighboring cities, even more residents will benefit from a higher wage and we will create a more level playing field for businesses throughout the region."

Demonstrators gathered outside City Hall on Tuesday to pressure city council members to approve the increase.

Mayor Liccardo launched the effort last fall to follow the lead of five other cities in Santa Clara County and to come up with a regional approach to raise minimum wage throughout Silicon Valley. ...

County OKs $15 minimum wage by 2021

Milwaukee County employees and workers of companies awarded service and concession contracts with the county will be paid a minimum of $15 per hour beginning in 2021, under a "living wage" ordinance approved Thursday by the County Board.

The ordinance matches a proposal by County Executive Chris Abele and sets the minimum wage at $12.35 an hour in 2017, up from $11.68 an hour this year.

Annual wage increases established by the ordinance will push it up to $13.01 an hour in 2018, $13.67 in 2019, $14.34 in 2020, and $15 in 2021.....

County Council Expects To Consider $15 Minimum Wage Bill Later This Year

The Montgomery County Council could begin working later this year on legislation to raise the county’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020.

Council member Marc Elrich, who introduced the bill to incrementally raise the minimum wage in April, said the legislation is “absolutely necessary” while speaking Wednesday night at a County Council town hall meeting in Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring attended by about 75 people....
