Are you glad you did? I'm thinking about doing it to support free speech as it is coming under assault by Trumph.

(63,645 posts)I think quality journalism is worth supporting.
And yes I am glad I did.

(17,055 posts)NY Times & Wapo. Online subscriptions for both not actual hard copy. I did it for that exact reason, support for free speech.

it and will keep it active.
ETA: I had subscribed to a trial WaPo, also, but dropped it after the election. I just got an email giving a deep discount, so I reactivated.

(6,262 posts)That brings access to digital. I still prefer hard copy on Sunday for that nearly all day experience.
Recently subscribed to the Guardian and Atlantic. Thinking about Wapo.
Refuse to subscribe to my local, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, for their repeated support of Walker. Instead, when I hit the pay wall, I exit and then clear my history. That brings me back to square one in case I need to read more pertinent local news.

(6,801 posts)Also, Times just said the meeting is back on. Trump will go to the New York Times for meetings. Off-the-record will be with the editorial staff and on-the-record will be with reporters. Times did not cave like cable news.

(50,993 posts)can afford to should subscribe to one or two papers. Free speech is going to go away if there is no profit motive for it. Sad to say.

(1,351 posts)I'm torn. I want to support good journalism, but:
1) Do I want to read about drumpf all the time? I was planning on avoiding a lot of news.
2) I hate the way the media, NYT chief among them, grilled HRC for nonexistent "scandals" to appear equal - thus resulting in drumpf.
3) Will NYT roll over for drumpf the way the media seems to do? They met with him today. Consensus seems to be people patting him on the back for meeting with a paper.
