Something So Wrong

Every presidential election is inevitably followed by a sense of anticipation. Citizens wonder what the new POTUS will seek to accomplish, how they will govern, and what role they will play on the world stage.

There is no denying that this election is different. The citizenry is not living with hopeful anticipation, but with a looming sense of dread. Some are living in fear of losing their rights, of losing their jobs, of losing their healthcare. Some are terrified of being harassed, or even persecuted on the basis of their race, their ethnicity, their sexual orientation.

Even those who supported Trump are now coming to the realization that they, too, have been lied to, played by a self-serving grifter who not only has no intention of fulfilling the promises he made in order to secure their votes, but the late-breaking realization that they may very well wind up in a far worse position than they have been in before now.

We all, each and every one of us, are already facing the fact that this new pResident is a loose cannon whose ignorance, boorish behaviour, and pettiness will cause us unprecedented humiliation in the global community. We already know that the progress made by Obama – progress that benefited ALL Americans – will likely be completely obliterated by a man who is stunningly unprepared to take up the reins of power. We already know that our economy is going to suffer, and our fellow citizens are going to suffer, and our standing in the world will be reduced to ridicule.

There is something very wrong when the only people who are celebrating Trump’s election are those who now feel free to proudly display their racism, their bigotry, their penchant for violence – and yes, above all, their lack of decency.

There is something very wrong when we see swastika’s appearing on our buildings, in our parks, on our playgrounds; when we watch our neighbours cower in fear because they dress in a way that marks them as being of a certain religion or ethnicity.

There is something very wrong when we hear words like “nigger” and “kike” being used without shame, hear teachers threatening children with horror stories about how they will become orphans when their parents are deported, when we witness violence on our streets perpetrated by lowlifes whose hatred is now unfettered and unchecked.

There is something VERY wrong about all of this – and the fact that it has been encouraged by the man who is about to hold the highest office in our nation, and the most powerful position on the planet, is beyond frightening. The fact that this “new era” of
division, hatred and fear has been ushered-in by the man who is tasked with leading our country is truly beyond disturbing.

There is no point in reiterating Trump’s failings as a businessman, as a politician – indeed as a human being. His lack of interest in the job he is about to take on, and his lack of understanding of the responsibilities of that position, are only surpassed by his lack of interest in the well-being of his country and his fellow citizens. He hasn’t even taken office yet, and he has already proven himself to be a failure at everything a president should be, and needs to be. And with every passing day, with every appointment made, with every statement uttered, he demonstrates his unwillingness to fulfill the duties of office for the betterment of the nation he will soon swear to protect and serve.

Like most of us, I have no solutions, no quick fix to the disaster that is about to unfold – the depths and breadth of which we cannot yet know or assess.

All we have at this point is our faith in each other. Therein lies our only strength in combating what is about to happen, our only weapon on the battlefield that our country is about to become.

And so we must persevere. We must stand up for our countrymen, we must protect the most vulnerable among us, we must spare no effort in fighting for what we believe in. Every onslaught on our rights must be met with resistance, every push must be met with a shove, every action that threatens our fellow Americans must be met with a unified front unwilling to be moved.

We no longer have any choice in the matter. It is now truly us or them. The line in the sand has been drawn – it is up to all of us to ensure that that line is held.

From the movie “Glory”: “If this man should fall, who will lift the flag and carry on?”

The answer MUST be “I will”, and it MUST be shouted by every last one of us.

Were we looking at a Trump pResidency under any circumstances, it would have been hard to bear.

But watching this ignorant buffoon replacing one of THE best presidents the country has ever known is a particularly hard pill to swallow.

I cannot imagine the angst Obama is living with, knowing that his every effort to unite the country, to work tirelessly to protect the rights of ALL citizens, to bring back the respect we once held in the world's eyes is now about to be obliterated - not by someone with differing political ideals, but someone who has NO scruples whatsoever.

That must be depressing beyond comprehension for a President who did so much - having to stand by and watch it all turned into shit.

Donald Trump has three options:

First, he can cash out all his assets or put them in a blind trust?

Or he can be impeached by the Senate of the United States?

Rationally, those are the only two options.

But, with Trump, there is a third option:

He can ignore them and dare the Republicans to do anything about it?

We have been smitten by the Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.

This also gives Trump enough rope to hang himself, then they lower the boom and install PP (President Pence).

If Trump balks at any of their stuff at any point, they will pull the plug on him immediately! The the only solace in this whole debacle would be watching Establishment Republicans go after Trump. What a circus that would be!

Wed Nov 23, 2016, 04:52 AM

As I understand it, the House Judiciary Committee votes and passes on the impeachment recommendation to the full House of Representatives (majority radical Republicans), who votes on the Articles of Impeachment, and then sends them over to the Senate for trial. In the Senate, a two thirds majority is necessary for conviction of "high crimes and misdemeanors" committed in office. Cronyism and incompetence by Republicans is not a "high crime" or "high misdemeanor" to a Republican--only when committed by a Democrat is it worthy of pursuing legally.

If anyone thinks Trump doing illegal business deals on his own behalf from the Oval Office will be reprimanded by a House led by Paul Ryan, much less convicted by a Senate led by Mitch McConnell, they are probably using controlled substances. Republicans don't worship God. They worship money. Impeaching a president of their own party for wanting more of it amounts to blasphemy for them.

The main stream media will only accelerate this as people are urged to "fall in line" behind the new white supremacist leaders. Human memory is notoriously faulty and malleable and they will use this against you. Every day you wake up you need to pinch yourself and remind yourself that this is not a dream, white supremacists are in the highest offices of the land in the US. THAT IS NOT OK, THAT IS NOT NORMAL. THAT MUST BE FOUGHT. Because while we may not see concentration camps springing up, while it's impossible to peer through the fog ahead to see WHERE all of this is going, have no doubt that complacency is exactly how you one ends up THERE!

I feel like with all the progress comes a test. This is our test and the question now is how do we respond. How do we mobilize? We have to focus on 2018 turnout. That is critical. We have to grieve and mourn and lift ourselves up and each other up. I think a lot of Trump supporters are basking in some sort of smug venomous afterglow. They won't know what hit them when reality sets it. They wanted to give a big eff you to the establishment but what they don't know yet is they only screwed themselves. They are flying high on some wacked out sort of supremacy haze. There will be no big expansion of factory jobs in the Midwest. If anything, they would be automated. The climate deniers are too stupid to realize that if we don't save the planet, nothing else matters. So now we need to take an open and honest inventory of our party and learn from the mistakes in order to move forward.

of all of the things I need to say when someone (and by someone, I mean every single person that finds out I'm American) will ask about this trump guy since I live abroad in Europe.

I didn't vote for him. I would have never voted for him.
Please don't hold it against me that I'm American and that (bad name) is the President Elect.
He's the worst of the worst that America represents.
I honestly don't think he was elected, I do agree with him that the election was rigged because even my favorite liberal home (DU) was hacked.
I will not honor this President like I have honored those before him.
I will never be responsible for his future cockups and he will make many.
I will not respect that guy.
I will do everything I can within reason to show no respect for the office of the Presidency while he is running it.
I believe that he will break laws that will end up impeaching him or making him quit.
As a former resident of Indiana, Pence is worse than (bad name) will ever be because his 1000 yr old bible book is his compass.

I have cried for my gay friends, I have cried for my muslim and hispanic friends. I have cried because my spouse is a naturalized citizen and wonder if we will have to carry his papers with us every visit from now on. I cried for my 84 yr old Mother and hope that they don't take away her social security and medicare. I hope that no one dies when they take away our healthcare. I cried because I know that many of my family and some of my (former) friends did vote for him and I never want to speak to them again.

I could go on and on because I've been shut out of my DU home for 2 weeks and haven't had a safe place to vent.
And I'm angry and feeling helpless and hopeless for the past 2 weeks. Ugh.

Trump played this beautifully. Played on the passions of the uneducated and misinformed. All the central points of his campaign are sounding far different these days.

The Wall - Walking it back (might be a 'fence' in some places)
Deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants - Walking it back, to less than a quarter of that.
Appointing a Special Prosecutor to investigate Secretary Clinton "on Day One" - Walked it back, not pursuing it further.
Climate change a fraud invented by the Chinese - Walking it back.

Walking it back....
Walking it back...
Walking it back...

Trump supporters have been sold a bill of goods. Bait-n-switch; oldest trick in the book.

Say no to Putin / Trump.
Trump's campaign was about fear of, and loathing for, minorities. Trump stoked this fear and strutted around like a professional wrestler. It was always what he was going to do to them, "bombing the shit out of them."
Whether he chooses to govern like a normal elected leader or rule through fear and fiat will determine our future. Running the world's biggest economy with the world's most powerful military is not the same as hosting The Apprentice or running a casino / hotel into the ground.
If he chooses to rule by fiat through fear the consequences for the vast majority will be dire. He can govern for the future or issue reckless edicts, some for the purpose of filling his personal coffers. We are in a gray area now. We can work together to keep the embers of The Enlightenment glowing or let him run roughshod over the working class and take us to a very dark place.
His chief political advisor is an unkempt, unethical Karl Rove minus the scruples or charm. Bannon is the Rasputin for the new Romanov cartel. Yes the future looks dim, but we must use everything in our grasp to a return to the civility that runs counter to Trump's immoral proclivities. We must stay resolute in our opposition to Trump's negativity. Reagan said it was morning in America. Now all we can see is a coming storm on the horizon.
My sincere hope is that we will once again join together and sing
"From California to the New York island. From the Redwood Forrest to the gulf stream waters, this land was made for you and me. "
