this should go well: Sandusky Trial Hears Wife Call Accusers 'Conniving' and 'Clingy'

------------------------

A poised Dottie Sandusky testified today that she never saw anything sexual occur between her husband Jerry Sandusky and any of the accusers in the sex abuse trial that could send her husband to prison for life.

Dottie Sandusky who winked at her husband as she took the stand, said in a soft voice that she would be married to Sandusky for "46 years in September" and was the strongest witness called so far by Sandusky's defense lawyer, Joseph Amendola.

In a patient grandmotherly style, she described most of her husband's accusers as "very nice," but remembered some as "conniving" and "very clingy."

Her testimony followed a morning of testimony in which Amendola poked holes in the accounts of two lead investigators and challenged the credibility of the police and the alleged victims.

Republican state senator’s stall tactics helped Jerry Sandusky’s defense By Tara Murtha
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 13:23

One paragraph from the beginning and two paragraphs from further down, on why I think Sandusky will get off:

...Despite efforts by some legislators in the wake of the Sandusky allegations, Pennsylvania remains the only state in the country that doesn’t allow experts to testify for the prosecution in sex crimes — a situation that stands to benefit Sandusky. Generally ignored by the media and the public (except for a short list of lawmakers and advocates who were feverishly working to fix it) this quirk of state law garnered plenty of attention after Judge John Cleland ruled last week that Sandusky would be allowed to put a psychiatric expert on the stand in his defense...

By contrast, the prosecution is not allowed to call an expert to testify that, while some of the behaviors of the eight men who testified against Sandusky may not conform to common expectations of childhood sex abuse victims, research shows those behaviors — not telling anyone for years, keeping social appointments with an assailant after alleged attacks, holding back details in initial reports to authorities — are typical of victims of childhood sex abuse, and especially of young boys abused by authority figures.

“(It's) patently unfair to allow expert testimony on behalf of the defendant and deny the prosecution from enlightening the jury through expert testimony of victim behavior,” says Scott Burns, Executive Director of the National District Attorneys Association. “It severely disadvantages the prosecution.”

considering the evidence against him, we might as well not even have a justice system - just a convenience store where you can pay to have crimes absolved.

I'm sure there are good people who want that man convicted.

But this group got their lawyers from the Bush crowd, who have eaten the insides of this nation like termites from the ground up. In every way, they eviscerated all the institutions that existed to treat fellow humans with respect.

When I see stories here on DU, like the kids harrassing the elderly bus monitor and other things, I truly fear what is coming. But some of that was there already. Some comments from good DUers about the atmosphere the media has made in this country, were in that thread.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002834461#post92

The MM & V post of the Tea Party chanting the mantras of insults, meaningless words, with fury and hatred for a liberal who wanted to make things in the USA again was chilling. They all were birthers, it was like watching robots.

These are the people next door, working in hospitals, in the stores, running school boards, election boards, all of that. Why would they care if someone they despise, like these poor boys, get abused by one of their heroes?

I am truly afraid for those who are coming into the world and will be forced to live with them. I wish I'd foregone parenthood. I thought the human race was moving forward, at least a part of it.

I hope he gets convicted, but don't think so. Such arrogance as Sandusky's wife and attorney have says a lot. They are not afraid, no more than Bush or Cheney are.

Perhaps the devolution of laws and society is what needs to take place in this world. I hope I am completely wrong about it all.

Because this whole situation is horrible, and if this man gets away with it, regardless of the social consequences, others will be emboldened to do it, too.

So incredibly sad for the victims.

EDIT: And that situation with the bus monitor - that was so incredibly sad for that woman, yet she kept her cool despite the ugliness she was surrounded with. I wonder what our country is coming to these days with abject cruelty being written off as normal

reporting on the trial for MSNBC and Martin Bashir. The subject was about Sandusky not testifying and the possible reasons for not doing so and the reporter talked about one of Sandusky's adopted sons being brought in to testify for the prosecution as a rebuttal witness if Sandusky had testified. They then went on to discuss the other, more obvious, reasons ie brutal cross-examination that would have taken place, etc.

I found the piece re the adopted son interesting and I hope more is said/written on this.

No one really knows what kind of testimony he may have. I did read somewhere that he attempted suicide once (he was already with the Sanduskys as a foster child placement, but not yet formally adopted, as I understand it).

At this point, it's only speculation. Maybe one day we will know what he was planning to say, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sandusky had groomed or molested foster children or grandchildren or others not involved with The Second Mile.

Let's not forget that only Victims 1 through 8 were introduced (two of which have never been identified) at trial. But there are victims 9 through 17 (at least) still out there who testified to grand juries and/or prosecutors.

One of the alleged victims is going public. He was not a witness at the trial.

on Chris Matthew's show, hopefully more information will be forthcoming.

Your post is excellent and I completely agree with your point re not being surprised of Sandusky had groomed or molested the foster children, etc, and we must not forget that there were more alleged victims than the 8 who testified.

Thanks for the info on Matt Sandusky as to whether he had been adopted or was still living with them as a foster child yet to be adopted.

I was just reading about the alleged victim that is going public. Here is an article on it:

"Jerry Sandusky trial: Man claims to be abuse victim, gives interview

A 30-year-old man who alleges he was sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky will speak tonight on NBC's "Rock Center with Brian Williams." Travis Williams of Ohio is not one of the eight alleged victims who testified at Sandusky's trial but says he was molested by the former Penn State coach 100 times. It'll air at 10 tonight on NBC."
