Looks legit - anybody heard anything about it?

(1,215 posts)I had to copy and past and send it through my yahoo account. Yahoo would not accept the amount of email addresses and I had to delete some of them. I know at least one person got it because they sent a stupid message back. Something to the effect of "get over it"

(5,442 posts)I got four responses back, all negative, but I figured that I'd keep the conversation going as long as I could. So I wrote back to them very politely and respectfully, addressing what they said. I ended by saying that I know we disagree, but as things go forward, if wanted to re-examine their position, they'd have support. So go ahead and do it. We just don't know what might happen as Il drumpf keeps doing his thing.

(5,417 posts)The people on the electoral college were chosen for their loyalty to the republican party, and they are mostly up and coming with a bright political future. They are not going to risk that to put a democrat in charge. Voting for Hillary would end their career overnight.

(1,798 posts)If not a victory, then it would be attrition, minimization of damage. Why be so binary about this?
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Just pointing out what's realistic.
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)Or doing what you are decrying is unrealistic? Your words have an influence on others, or why would you express them? What are you trying to accomplish in this circumstance? These actions are, at worst, gestures of defiance. Is there a problem with that?
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Because Congress will never allow faithless elector votes to be counted.
And no, I don't have a problem with people doing whatever they choose if it makes them feel better - it's their time being wasted, not mine.
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)Why is that? What's your goal?
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Why do you care so much about my opinion? I'm not trying to stop you from doing anything.

(1,798 posts)Moreover, the effect of actions is not confined to their immediate result. What you are saying is discouraging people from making a human appeal to another human to take sides against nascent fascism. Why do that? "Pitting info out there" is not a neutral act per se. At this juncture, why not maximize the ability to fight?
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)based on what a faceless person on the internet says, that's their problem, not mine.
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)Just own the effect, and put it alignment with your values. Encouragement is what is needed now.

(1,798 posts)I have no idea what your agenda is, but I have declared mine. Why you need to have the last word when your stated intention is to "just put info out there" and "not waste your time" is something only you can answer.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)"Please see the difference"...like it matters. I was actually embarrassed for you, begging like that.
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)It does matter. I can't be shamed on this, it's too important.
Strange, such attention to matters of status with respect to a "faceless person on the internet".
I wish you well personally, but I would encourage you to think about the wider context of what you say. I've said what I wanted to say. Have the last word now, perhaps it will make you feel better.

(90,714 posts)My message, should it ever get through:
Please consider your historic, Constitutional, role in the presidential election process. The Electoral College was designed to prevent just such an outcome as we are seeing now -- that is, that an unqualified person would enter the presidency over a qualified one.
As things stand now, the number of votes is not even close. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is ahead by over two million votes, and the tally increases by the day. She is qualified. He, arguably, is not. Your Constitutional mandate is to thoughtfully discern that and act upon it.
Further, there are increasingly grave concerns that a foreign nation interfered with our election, from influence of individual persons to actual hacking of the machinery. Donald Trump has numerous "foreign entanglements" and is quite cozy with Russia, the nation that has left its fingerprints on numerous political hacks this year. This alone is disqualifying, but he has, since being declared the "winner" in this contest, used every meeting and conversation with foreign dignitaries to advance his personal business empire.
Please, pay heed to the American people, and ratify the election of Hillary Clinton.
