I mean, I knew Canadians crossed the border to participate, even though their own Thanksgiving is in October -- but this is just obscene!

It's a way to reduce the number of folks who fly to the US for bargains and help the local merchants.

Now, he says, towns just over the Border on USA side are mobbed by Canadian shoppers.
Makes sense to me.
My family used to cross into Idaho from E. washington to shop, because no sales tax.
Pays off if you live within 30 miles of the border.
same with S. washington/Oregon border to Portland Ore.

(8,692 posts)Even with the collapse of the Canadian dollar most things are still cheaper and significantly so in the US. The gouging for practically everything in Canada is unbelievable.

(8,692 posts)I began working in Canada in 2005 and it was pretty much limited to oblivious US based mall chains then.
Although Boxing Day is every bit as obscene as Black Friday.

(78,249 posts)Even if we don't call it that, it's the day when a sizable percentage of the Black Friday-obtained gifts are returned, completing a cycle of sorts.
