President-elect Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he has been MAKING PROGRESS keeping a Carrier Corp. factory in the U.S.
I am working hard, even on Thanksgiving, trying to get Carrier A.C. Company to stay in the U.S. (Indiana). MAKING PROGRESS Will know soon!

(7,290 posts)But if he's able to keep those Carrier jobs here in America, why is that a bad thing?

(26,602 posts)Keeping jobs in the US without sacrificing fair wages/benefits, workplace safety, and environmental protection would not be a bad thing. But I can imagine ways to 'keep jobs' that would not, in the larger picture, be entirely positive...

(7,290 posts)I guess what I didn't articulate very well was my confusion at the title of the OP. To me, it came off as there being something wrong with trying to keep American jobs in America.

(37,748 posts)He also said he kept a Ford plant in the US, yet Ford claimed Trump had nothing to do with the decision either way. Why is that a bad thing?
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)My comments are more about the tone of the OP, which to me, came across not as being pissed that Trump was taking credit, but pissed that the jobs might stay here instead of going to Mexico.

(153,164 posts)he took credit for Ford and that was bullshit too
he knows his idiot fans will believe ANYTHING he says
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)However, I'm still confused as to why it would be a bad thing to keep those jobs here rather than them going to Mexico.
So what if Trump is lying and has nothing to do with them staying (if they do stay)? To me, the important point would be that they stay.

SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)But the point of the OP wasn't that it was bad Trump was taking undeserved credit, it was that it was bad that the jobs might not go to Mexico.

(10,926 posts)I've been on DU since its inception, and I cannot count the number of threads lamenting the loss of American manufacturing jobs. Now, simply because you don't like the person claiming to do something about it, you don't want those jobs.
What a childish, unserious attitude. Here is a link to a video that might interest you:
Those are real people who are losing real jobs that they wanted to keep.
(I realize that for the simpleminded, I am now a Trump supporter. What you should be worried about is how many Trump supporters are in that video, including some who weren't supporters on the day that was shot)

(58,724 posts)Mexico is home to a diverse manufacturing industry where a wide range of products are assembled in the country and exported to countries around the globe. The automotive and aerospace industries in the country have experienced significant growth over the years, and both are currently thriving. However, there is another Mexican production industry growing as well: heating and cooling.

(13,340 posts)As a tweet from the union rep said, perhaps Mr. Trump would be aware the workers whose jobs are being shipped south made furnaces, not air conditioners.

(51,076 posts)it wasn't the Air Conditioner manufacturing that were being moved but rather the Heating units. Something that most of the Mexican people hardly have much use for
What that all means I have no idea

(46,117 posts)I believe it would be on the condition of union give-backs, e.g., salary, pension, health benefits, working hours, overtime, etc.
Trump would claim the credit and a very bad precedent would be made for other companies to blackmail workers to accept less than they have now.

Posts like yours is the reason Democrats lost this election. You care more about jobs in Mexico than jobs in America.
