The OP quote leaves out a couple of sentences, but what it says is there on the LiveJournal entry.

(14,564 posts)literally, yes, more people did in fact vote for Hillary. But,
1 - the system is the the system, same was it would have been had Hill gotten less votes but won the EV, and we would be defending the shit out of that.
2 - it was donald fucking trump. There is no reason for a single fucking person to vote for the meglomaniac con man. But, 60 million or so did AND, Hillary's margin was less than those who did not vote for either, too.
3 - the R majority in the house and senate, and governorships and state houses and state senates existed BEFORE trump was elected . I hate it it was much as you or anyone else does, the simple fact is that this country is THAT fucking stupid to make Donald Trump president AND this country either flat out wants or is very comfortable with the crazy ass shit republicans want to do, because they have been very clear about it all along.
Hillary may have gotten more votes, but the country was MORE than willing to make Trump POTUS and give republicans free reign to carry out what is coming.

During a foreign policy briefing several months ago, Trump asked three times in an hour, "If we have them, why can't we use them?"

Herr Dumpf no doubt thinks nuclear winter is more science gobbledygook just trying to ruin his fun like global warming.

(43,166 posts)Trump inherits an economy that appears to be functioning well. We keep
looking for parallels to the Great Depression, but it's not exact. Once he cuts
out the financial support structure for working class people - about 90% of us
- things will fall away quickly. Americans rely on financial aid, cheap foreign goods,
social safety net, unemployment insurance, consumer spending to support their
businesses and jobs. Chipping away at one weakens all the others. It becomes a
giant feedback loop. Trump's response will be to build schools and luxury hotels.
We will be on life support within a year. This will be like taking the 1937
Roosevelt Recession - so called because FDR decided to balance the budget and
cut government outlays - and hitting it with a double whammy. The second half
of the Great Recession will be worse than the first, and have more fear, and
probably inflation from the trade wars and currency manipulations and wasteful
outlays on military and capital projects. And think of the social implications.
We just aren't primed to be a tolerant caring society anymore.

Well some his supporters wanted "change" and now the majority of the country will pay the price.
Thanks Electoral College.

(14,564 posts)Major pushbacks on civil rights.
The tax payer dollar will be fully opened up with profiteers.
While at the same time as you noted the safety net is going to be gutted.
MAJOR tax reform that 1) screws most americans 2) benefits the rich 3) The people getting screwed will cheer for it 4) it will turn the federal budgets completely tits up 5) Which will be blamed on liberalism.
Education will dramatically altered to allow for profit efforts to pillage the golden goose of tax payer dollars without being held to standards that public education is held to.
Our public lands are going to be given away in mass.
Our environment is going to be open season to business.
AND, they will redo SS and Medicade to turn it over to for profit entities cutting into benefits.
The gambit will be that the market will explode with the influx of tax payer dollars, but it and everything else will be a pretty shaky house of cards.
And, that is just what the Rs are going to drive from congress and isn't even taking into account the crazy as shit Trump will do.

(7,772 posts)Which is why all this talk (again - see 2004) of a permanent Republican majority is a fantasy.
The events of the next few years will probably be the end of 'conservatism' and the Republican party. What fills the void?

(14,564 posts)On November 7, they day before the election the republicans had both chambers of congress and a significant majority of governorships and state houses and senates.
And, the reality is that IF Hillary had won POTUS, it would have been simply holding them off by having the executive branch, and they would have spent four years doing what they did to BHO only several times worse.
This is what we are now.
Trump was the just the cherry on the shit sunday.
