http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/24/us/politics/wilbur-ross-commerce-trump.html?_r=1President-elect Donald J. Trump is expected to select as commerce secretary Wilbur Ross, a billionaire investor who became known as the king of bankruptcy for buying, restructuring and selling off steel makers and other fading industrial companies, officials on the transition team said on Thursday.
You know, Trump only hires the best people. The best people. And he will get rid of all those special interests and bring the jobs back.

(10,624 posts)They bend over backwards not to offend Republicans, because Republicans get angry and throw their weight around.
And to the extent that any of us actually have any real power in this country, we should learn to do the same.

(5,477 posts)NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) is the largest component of the DoC. Dubya did his best to have them stop any research into climate change and ocean acidification when he was in office. This guy is likely to stop the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration from doing any actual science related to the oceans or the atmosphere.
When I was a part-timr contractor working for them, one of the incoming Commerce Secretaries had absolutely NO idea that NOAA was part of DoC, much less it's largest piece. Too many scientists and researchers had to shelve years of research and data when Dumb-ya essentially shut them down (no funding for research, ban on publication of scientific papers related to climate, etc.), and I'm not really sure that they have completely caught up, yet. Pretty much everything shifted to the Fisheries departments, and much of that was geared toward how to extract the most possible profit from the oceans rather than how to preserve fragile ecosystems so that the marine life could thrive.
Fun times...which I fear will probably be much worse under anything that tRump appoints.
