"MIAMI Dalia Carmeli, who drives a trolley in downtown Miami, voted for Donald J. Trump on Election Day. A week later, she stopped in to see the enrollment counselor who will help her sign up for another year of health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
I hope it still stays the same, said Ms. Carmeli, 64, who has Crohns disease and relies on her insurance to cover frequent doctors appointments and an array of medications.
Mr. Trump and Republicans in Congress are vowing to repeal much or all of the health law, a target of their partys contempt since the day it passed with only Democratic votes in 2010. If they succeed, they will set in motion an extraordinary dismantling of a major social program in the United States."

(92,209 posts)covered by it will pause them from its repeal without something to fill its gap.
The problem is, they were given a chance to come up with a plan, and they failed miserably
It might not be so easy for them to repeal as they would like to, just like they want to do with privatizing Medicare and Social Security. Those are very popular programs, and 65 million plus people will be none too happy

(13,424 posts)I feel horribly for every Clinton voter who will lose their health insurance next year. I do not give a damn about any voter for the Racist-in-Chief who also loses their insurance because they made a conscious choice to lose it.

(6,974 posts)Yes, I only feel for those of us who have to suffer because of their ignorance.
I don't wish anything on them, because they bought this on themselves.

(33,956 posts)I sure would have kept that in mind when I cast my vote for someone who wants to take away my health insurance.
That being said....my pity is reserved for those that didn't vote for it.
The ones who did? Not a single ounce of pity. I don't care what your reasons were--they weren't good enough.
You deserve everything that happens to you.

(1,397 posts)I'm 72, born 1944 in rural SW Mississippi. Marched behind MLK in Alabama. 30 years a soldier.
This nation is headed into a very long, very dark tunnel with no light at the end.
Republicans control most state legislatures and state houses and stand to expand that control. Don't forget -- it's states that decide who votes, who establish regulations for clinics, and many other important issues.
Trump will load the Supreme Court with radical conservatives who will ensure no social progress for a generation and who likely will roll back protections for minorities while turning over the rest of the nation to corporations.
I have 10 - 12 years to live. I'll die very, very sad and angry that my grandsons will not enjoy the life I have lived. On the other hand, I'm glad the rightwing sonsabitches who brought on this darkness will suffer along with them.
Finally, even though we are staring at darkness, I retain a little hope:
"In This Universe The Night was Falling, The Shadows were lengthening
towards an east that would not know another dawn.
But elsewhere the Stars were still young and the light of morning lingered: and
along the path he once had followed, Man would one day go again."
-- Arthur C. Clarke, The City & The Stars

(92,209 posts)getting hurt is very real
There is still a small flicker of hope that Roberts and Kennedy will prevent a complete destruction of everything fought for the last 60 years, and that there will be at least a few republicans in congress who might prevent the complete breakdown of the safety nets, but we are indeed in a very grave situation
