Please remember what happened in 2004 / Ohio - Triad Systems

http://www.commondreams.org/views06/0601-34.htm

See section IX. Rigging the Recount in the above article.

============================

The article above describes the event differently than someone explained it to me at the time, which was that a VP of Triad turned up at the County offices, told the front desk one thing to get admitted, then headed back to the elections department and explained that he was there to help them "prepare for the recount". As he removed his coat and hung it up, he pulled a circuit board out of his jacket pocket and proceeded to disassemble a machine and installed the card. Then he wrote a number on a piece of paper tacked to the wall, which was an internal phone directory. He pointed to the number, addressed an employee, and said "if you don't want to be the next Florida, when the recount is performed, I don't care what number comes out of this machine. You report the number there on that paper." Or something pretty close to that effect.

It is absolutely imperative that those involved in monitoring this recount that they all be reminded of what happened 12 years ago. Employees of voting machine manufacturers have to be kept the f*** away from the gear. Even if it requires action that is intended to draw media attention to such employees turning up at county office...

Now how that happens, I just don't know. But if there are folks who plan to be at the county offices and play any sort of observation role, perhaps just sitting in those building and watching the coming and going of folks, it would be amazing if someone found some way of trying to spot voting machine dweebs and try to learn what they might be doing there.
