Since his election win, Trump has talked to Putin more than any other world leader

WASHINGTON
In the scarcely two weeks since Donald Trump’s surprise victory over Hillary Clinton, he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have spoken at least twice by phone.

Their aides have had additional contacts.

That’s more contact than Trump is known to have had with any other world leader since he defeated Clinton in the Nov. 8 election. But it is a concrete display of what many predicted would be a reversal in the standoffish relations between the two nuclear powers should Trump win election.

Russian news outlets reported Wednesday that Trump and Putin already are negotiating how Russia and the United States will act in the Middle East next year.

the more radical center-right Presidential candidate Fillon, who is now apparently favored to win the Republican nomination there with a good chance of becoming President, sounds like he wants to sit down and become BFF with Putin. Fillon has been described as a "pro-business" "devoted Thatcherite" who wants to eliminate half a million public sector jobs. Ugh.

The Socialist Party of Hollande will have a candidate on the ballot but I don't know their chances. The European TV I watch keep saying the left is in a state of turmoil both in Britain and France, suggesting they can't win much. I don't know if that's true or if it's mostly media creating a narrative favorable to RW candidates the way U.S. media often do.
