Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Monday told Democrats to stiffen their spines, reminding them that "the majority of voters supported Democratic Senate candidates over Republicans ones, and the majority supported a Democratic presidential candidate over a Republican one."
The remark came as Warren took to the Senate floor to oppose a bill originally intended to spur medical innovation but which she now says has been "hijacked" by the pharmaceutical industry. The bill, known as the 21st Century Cures Act, has reportedly attracted the attention of "more than 1,455 lobbyists representing 400 companies." That means lots of money is at stake.
"I do not care how many campaign contributions they dump into Congressional pockets," Warren said in a spirited speech, "I do not care how painful they can make life for politicians who oppose them, I will not be their lackey."
But Warrens call to abandon the legislation was wrapped in a broader appeal to Democrats to gird for a fight as Republicans prepare to take full control of the government even though both the senate and the executive lack the support of a majority of American voters.

(29,721 posts)What do you expect her to do? She has been vilified from the right and the left and by women and men and she was beaten badly in the electoral college. And now you want more?
Sorry, msongs, I'm not trying to offend. She's a human being. I didn't hear any of this sort of thing when Gore left and went to Europe for a year.

(37,748 posts)I suppose we do need to frame her new life as "hiding out," despite her active twitter and Facebook accounts, her benign walks in the land around her home, purchasing material at Savoy Bookstore in Waverly, and her possible support for the WI recount.
Biased narratives need your type of framing to seem less fictional that reality may otherwise dictate.

I'd rather see her as the Senate Minority Leader than Schumer.

(396 posts)There are more registered Dems in America than registered Republicans. Even when you look at the number of people who voted Clinton over Trump...she clearly had the popular support. The Republican brand isn't powerful or appealing, the problem is the Dems haven't done nearly enough to separate themselves from right-wing policies, so the Dems to many don't come off as a better alternative. Now I personally disagree with that, but a lot of people think that way.
