The most terrifying thing yet about Trump!! :-( ...

Last edited Fri Dec 2, 2016, 04:06 AM - Edit history (1)

So, I'm sure most have heard of Trump's call with Pakistan's leader, the media has been giving it some coverage though not what it deserves IMHO. At least they are mentioning it more than they might have otherwise. So far most of the horror show we have had to experience with Trump has been internal in nature. Which is to be expected as he hasn't even assumed office officially. And of course even that news has been terrifying given his cabinet choices. Many of these choices hint at potential almost apocalyptic futures, only time will tell there.

But trump, until now, has had little interaction with other leaders on the world stage. I'm sure most everyone expected him to be the blow hard that he is even with other world leaders. And as we can see with this story that's true.

But here we have just the beginnings of what could spell disaster for the whole world. America's relationship with Pakistan is one of the most complex and nuanced of all the geopolitical relationships the US has with other countries. We are talking about a country that is as much friend as enemy. A potentially frighteningly unstable nuclear power who is always at odds, sometimes violently so with their long time nuclear rival neighbour India. Pakistan is as complex and conflicted as it gets. Of course the VAST majority of their the people are peace loving, but as a government they are an unstable and hard to pin down mess. They are allies of ours against ISIS and al-qaeda, but more than anything because they don't want to loose grip of their own corrupt semi dictatorial regimes. And we know that al-qaeda has at times infiltrated their military. The enemy of my enemy is my friend so to speak.

Of course past US presidents have propped up dictatorships and other governments for their own interest. In fact it almost seems to be the norm sadly. But the one unifying thread through all of that, aside from the US acting in its own terrible interests, is that at least in the past the US government and president knew to treat these relationships like the delicate cracked egg shells that they are. Again I don't believe that the relationship that the US has now with Pakistan is good, far from it I bet that it's as corrupt as one can imagine in order to benefit the US. But we have always treated it as the hot potato that it is.

But not with Trump. Trump just waltzes in there and almost literally kisses the feat of the Pakistani leader. "I am ready and willing to play any role that you want me to play to address and find solutions to the outstanding problems. It will be an honour and I will personally do it." And forget all the anti Islamic rhetoric Trump ran on, and the fact that Pakistan is 95% Muslim, that is just a distracting piece of hilarity. No the real danger here is that Trump has gone on all 4s fawningly crawling to a world leader who might indeed end up being an enemy. I'm sure he had his reasons, probably to yet again inflate his personal ego or his financial holdings.

But Trump is no longer playing with his own ego, his own money. He has finally been invited to "the big boy's table" but he doesn't care that at this level of play, it's not just money that hangs in the balance but millions, perhaps billions of people's lives.

And so he talks to the leader of Pakistan like he would to some member of a reality TV show to get an upper hand. I'm sorry Trump but you are WAY out of your fucking league. What terrifies me is that the reality TV "wild card" that might otherwise be played by a disgruntled cast member, in this case, could take the form of a mushroom cloud.

Other than taking congratulatory phone calls from foreign leaders, I've never heard of a president-elect behaving this way.
