Democracy didn't fail us!

The electoral college has screwed us all, AGAIN!.
First in the Bush vs Gore election and now THIS

I'm absolutely convinced that this broken archaic system will lead to the inevitable doom of our country unless it is abolished. We cannot afford to keep having this happen. Think of all the damage GWB caused to our nation. Now think of how much Trump might potentially cause. We cannot keep letting this happen. I don't know if our nation can handle much more of this without collapsing.

What other civilized country in the world uses a system like it? I cannot think of any. Either they're all right and we're wrong, or we're right with every other civilized democracy in the world doing it wrong. In scientific thinking you generally want to go with the 'more likely' option.

I realize the electoral college was designed to keep presidents from only focusing on the large population centers and big states. However, I notice that it creates other problems which seem just as bad. Due to the 'winner takes all' nature, it creates a system in which candidates don't even bother campaigning in states they aren't expected to win. IE Trump not even trying in states like Cali, and Hillary not trying in hard red states. The other problem with the EC is that it causes some votes to be worth more than others.

The electoral college at this point serves only to give disproportionate electoral power to backwards ass ignorant rural states, while marginalizing the electoral power of our modern thinking population centers. Trump isn't the disease. He's merely a symptom of the underlying sickness which has plagued our country, and that sickness is the EC.

Repealing the EC will be extremely hard because the states who benefit from it would need to vote for its repeal. That's why the people of this nation need to protest and DEMAND action! We would need millions of people from everywhere to march upon Washington and protest. Shut the whole country down if needed. If the people of our country cannot pull their heads from their asses and DEMAND an end to this unjust abomination of an election system then we deserve all the most nightmarish of horrors that are coming to us. If the EC still stands in 20 years and continues to ruin our elections, I'll find myself with only one opinion. Let us burn....

the electoral college like the Bill of Rights might have been created in part to protect the rights of the minority?

Have you seen Trumps appointees so far? He's not exactly taking the moderate path. We're looking at an ultra-right wing government that the majority doesn't want.

there will be another election. Any mistakes from this one can be corrected. That will be a lot easier than a change to the constitution.

vs. modern thinking population centers?"

That might be part of the problem right there.

As for "the people" protesting, making DEMANDS! and marching on Washington--well, "the people" include the ones who have elected an overwhelming number of R governors and state legislatures. If you think protests are going to get you something you can't get at the ballot box, I think you're a little misguided.

My Dog! He hasn't even been inaugurated yet, and he's caused a crisis with a nuclear power!!

But, this is reality: It would take a Constitutional amendment to eliminate, or even change, the Electoral College. If (big IF) an amendment could pass in a Republican-dominated Senate AND House, it would need to be ratified by 3/4 of the states, within a stated period of time.

Have you checked the map lately? Republicans now hold 33 governorships and 32 state legislatures.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/11/14/1598918/-Republicans-now-dominate-state-government-with-32-legislatures-and-33-governors

Do you really think they would vote to abolish their only chance of EVER holding the Presidency EVER again? Do you really think a march on Washington would change their minds?

EVERY RATIONAL PERSON KNOWS THIS.......we will keep trying, because we cannot continue to put UNQUALIFIED PEOPLE INTO THE WHITE HOUSE.....so yes, people need to keep speaking out, KEEP PROTESTING THESE FASCIST BASTARDS

I think they should start with VOTER SUPPRESSION and GERRYMANDERING, which heavily favor conservative assholes

At least GWB seemed like a sane individual even though I didn't agree with his politics, and thought he wasn't up to the job.

Trump seems >50% insane sometimes, and is literally filling all of his cabinet positions up with the worst human beings you can find. He might do okish until he has a legit crisis to deal with, but all bets are off when that happens. It's also likely that his policies could lead to another financial meltdown.

We have ZERO checks and balances right now after he finishes stuffing the supreme court with Scalia 2.0's. We'll basically be at the mercy of whatever these demented politicians want for America.

are totally underhanded, now they have aligned themselves to tea partiers, white supremacists, fascists, and the list goes on and on.

They are parasites, they only care about themselves, the jerks who voted for tRump will have buyers remorse, they will never admit it though they will blame someone else.

I will never call that man pResident. I would love the Media to admit to the american people we are a fascist country everyone in the world knows we are now. But our media will follow their orders.
