By Zack Ford
Mitt Romneys campaign may or may not be vetting Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for vice presidential consideration, but in the meantime, he continues to maintain space in the media spotlight. In an interview with Christianity Today published yesterday, he reiterated his opposition to same-sex marriage, pointing out that the Bible opposes it, as do all of the faiths (Catholic, Mormon, evangelical Christian) hes experienced. Though he qualified his answer in some ways, he also suggested that society shouldnt tolerate less-than-ideal family structures:
Its not a discriminatory thing. Im not angry at anyone because of it, but I also have to be honest about what I believe marriage should be in our laws.
In May, Rubio broke from Romney on the issue, coming out against a Federal Marriage Amendment a resolution of his past mixed feelings. He told Fox News Neil Cavuto that the regulation of marriage should be left to the states.

(2,307 posts)Just why should YOUR faith be the law of the land?
Doesn't that pesky U.S. Constitution say there isn't a national religion?
How do you justify ANY law based on one religion or group of religions?

(8,153 posts)Listen, Mr. Rubio, society moves forward.
There was a time when a lot of stuff wasn't tolerated.
Now it is.
We've advanced as a culture.
No thanks to fucking fundamentalists such as yourself.

(5,179 posts)It would be good if, any time some wingnut invokes the Bible to defend their bigotry, they have to find the exact chapter-and-verse. Otherwise, STFU.

(42,766 posts)I hope this marks the beginning of the end for Rubio as it did for Harris.
When Harris was running for the Senate seat that Nelson went on to win she made a typically dumb statement in an interview with a fundie newsletter of how she thought Jews and Muslims should all be converted to Christianity. Her campaign steadily lost ground from that point on. Here's hoping Rubio is just as dumb.

(33,688 posts)property. Nowdays marriage is a ceremony to reify the bond between two consenting adults who wish to share their lives together. It is a CIVIL institution, or all the people who were married by the judge I clerked for are not married.
This is industrial strength stupidity of a rare order.

(35,015 posts)If Rubio can provide evidence that same sex marriage should not be tolerated by society because it harms the members of society, then ok. But BELIEFS aren't good enough and yes, it certainly is discriminatory.
The GOP, always pushing their revisionist history that this country was founded on the bible, will take away your rights if you don't believe as they do.

(29 posts)race traitors like Marco Rubio that use their skin color in a cynical ploy to legitimize their political beliefs.
But it does play well in the deep south and they need the deep south to win this fall.

(14,881 posts)His rookie, not ready for prime time self tripped up when he failed on follow through, allowing Obama an opening to pre-empt immigration reform.
He blew his shot at veep candidacy because all he had to offer was uniting Hispanics behind the first half-way decent immigration reform since the GOP obstructed Dream. And the only people reading "christianity today" are fellow fanatical wingnuts.

More and more people are "tolerating" gay liberation
and same sex marriage.
I just wish they'd do the same for unions and poor people.
