Greece’s ailing economy grinds to a halt

http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/e79024a2-ba28-11e1-84dc-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1yLm07gYq

This article details how businesses in Greece are shutting down, or at least refusing sales, because there is no credit available and the Greek government cannot pay its bills.

Years ago, I had a friend from Greece who was trying to get his mother, an MS patient, over here. I hope he succeeded.

I'm not smart enough to know the solution. The more I try to understand macro economics, the more confused I get. But I DO know that businesses unable to get credit, as was detailed in the story, is bad for EVERYONE. I realize some people don't care about the "bourgeois" business owner, but what about the employees and the public, who has one less potentially life-saving piece of equipment available?

What I do know is that in the middle of the ideological pissing match are a lot of desperate people, and my hope is they can find structural, as opposed to band-aid, solutions.

When it's that bad, there really is no good solution... Drunken Irishman Jun 2012 #1
