Given the progression we have seen in my lifetime----from 1972, when a dirty Presidential election led to the downfall of a president who had to resign to escape impeachment, through 1980, when Papa Bush traded hostages for votes and spent the next twelve years kissing Iran's ass trying to keep them from making the deal public, to 2000 when the SCOTUS had to intervene (and tarnish its own reputation) to shut down the recount that would have made Gore the winner, to 2004 when the president's staff tried to block exit polls in Ohio for fear that they would provide a smoking gun that the election was stolen and when the exit polls went on as planned the administration had to bribe the MSM to suppress the polls to 2016 when the GOP did not do squat about the exit polls or try to hide any of their dirty tricks and when the results in not just one but at least five states defied belief they basically just said "So what? If we say we won, we won. Now shut up while we divide the spoils"-----given the death spiral of our democracy that we have witnessed in the last four decades what can we expect in 2020?
I pose this question to all of you who are talking about whom the Dems should run next time. Do you honestly think there will be a "next time" if we don't do something about this election?

(4,858 posts)...unless some fantastic information emerges from the recount, like absolute proof of Russian hacking flipping several key states. I doubt very much such evidence will emerge, at least in time. But if they Russians and the GOP did do it, they did it so well that finding proof will be hard--much harder, say, than finding evidence of Watergate. The GOP has learned to cover their tracks. And since they control our media "narrative", due to decades of whining about the risible "liberal media", they've ensured that nothing serious will emerge from the media--ever. Which means they've gotten away with it, and basically can do whatever the hell they want. Only a literal revolution will stop them, and the chances of that are zero. As for 2020--God knows. Anything is possible in the next four years. I suspect we'll be having one of those 99.9% referendums despots are so fond of...
