this childish locker language is blocked out?

I mean, I don't like excessive cussing either, but to claim it's childish and locker-roomy is to not deal with the reality of today's society.

(12,132 posts)well now that is elfin disappointing.
I was always comforted by the thought of a pregnant Frances McDormand-like person trooping through the snow and solving the crime and keeping me safe.

(53,410 posts)Did you ever read the American classic Catcher in The Rye by J.D. Salinger? Would you 'filter' that book too?
If you don't want to use it and would rather use 'the "F" word' instead by all means go for it. But kindly refrain from telling me or any other adult what words we can use.
DiverDave
(4,887 posts)nobody is telling YOU what words you can use.
The OP is simply stating that SHE doesnt care to see them.
But, of course you had to take it as someone trampling on your right to use a curse word.
Does it make you feel more adult to cuss?
If you must there are plenty of places on the web it is accepted.
lunatica
(53,410 posts)And yes, it makes me feel adult to have a choice of whether I cuss or not when I'm speaking with adults. Believe it or not I don't cuss around children or in church or in classrooms or in public places like restaurants, parks and movies so I know perfectly well how to control my use of language.
So, in essence the OP is expressing a desire to tell ME and YOU and EVERYONE ELSE what she deems acceptable while also expressing that she would actually trample on my and your rights if she could.
So, no. I won't settle down.

(71 posts)frankly, i could support that more than bans on any unorthodox opinions here, while subjecting us to gratuitous, tough-guy-poser profanity.

(6,279 posts)I prefer human intervention. Automated fixes often have unintended consequences (the best ever is probably the Tyson Gay fiasco).
Years ago I was active on a filtered message board where the software tried to outwit people putting spaces in their curse words. The net effect was to drive everyone's mind in the gutter trying to decipher innocent phrases festooned with asterisks. One example: someone talked about "getting into hot water" over something, which was rendered "getting into ho****er"

(2,104 posts)As someone above me points out if it is put in people will work around it ie spacing out the no no words, or misspelling them, etc.
For now just ignore all the people who use the childish locker language.

(3,539 posts)Some situations require a good cuss word or two.
When some fool in the teaparty party starts caring on about all liberals being born in Keyna or some such nonsense saying something like....
It would be wonderfully if Allen West were more reserved; just ain't gonna cut it.
Some teaparty party members require an expletive every time their name gets mentioned.

The nitwits in my legislature (Michigan) seem to feel that the use of anatomically correct terms (such as vagina) is obscene ... what is obscene?
Do idiots get to decide ... what if my definition differs from yours?

(38,326 posts)And you will see all the words it filters when you set it... which amuses me. If you don't want to see the bad words, first you must see the bad words.
Furthermore it did not block the photos of the lovely Fillipino ladies in the advertisement accompanying this thread, the sort of photos that would get you in trouble in some places.
BTW, I'm not the Hunter who wrote ProCon.
