'to help Donald Trump win the presidency bears on the upcoming decision of the Electoral College about whether Donald Trump becomes our next president.
The framers of the Constitution intended that the Electoral College guard against the possibility that a foreign power influences the outcome of a presidential election. In Federalist No. 68, Alexander Hamilton wrote that a major purpose of the Electoral College was to stop the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils. He said that the College would Guard against all danger of this sort
with the most provident and judicious attention from the electors.
The Electors of 2016 should take careful note.'

(7,512 posts)The fact that as a society we haven't pulled a South Korea and told this motherfucker "no way are we letting you into the White House" means this is life for the next 4 years.

(2,593 posts)neighborhood (suburban Atlanta) Christmas party and the Trump supporters are totally oblivious to this development and still expect great things from him.
I'm baffled and disappointed by what I heard, but it served as a reality check for me.

(18,378 posts)from among the top three electoral vote recipients. The House could not name Romney unless he were to get enough electoral college votes to qualify for consideration.
There is talk about a Republican consensus candidate being agreed upon by members of the electoral college to prevent Trump from getting to 270.

(36,748 posts)Dump goes below 270...then off to the House it goes.
I highly suspect the candidate will be Mitt Romney...Paul Ryan's buddy from 2012.

(18,378 posts)was Kasich, but Romney makes more sense, and it would be ironically delicious for Trump to have to vacate his office to make way for President Romney after that uncomfortable meeting over the chi-chi plate of frogs legs last week.
I don't want to see President Kasich or President Romney; I want to see President Clinton and an enacted Democratic platform, but I don't think the electoral college will go that route. At this point, however, given the fact that our country is facing a clear and present danger, the most important thing is to insure that there is no Trump presidency.

(18,378 posts)to vote for a Democrat, especially not one whom their leaders have successfully demonized for a quarter of a century. Republicans are good at closing ranks against the opposition party. That's the main reason why Trump, rather than Hillary, is president elect.

(18,378 posts)We no longer have gatekeepers who take their role seriously enough to be true stewards of our democracy.
Look at the press, look at the Republican leadership, look at James Comey. They are nothing if not stunningly self-interested, and they all failed in their duty. The only gatekeeper that remains is the electoral college. They'll fold as well.

Any other republican would be more acceptable than the Russian spy that's going to be installed on Jan 20th if nothing changes
