What if criminal collusion (Putin/Trump) is PROVED to have had an extreme effect on the election?

(((Proved))) is the operative word.

Let's say, eventually the weight of CIA evidence and public opinion creates a tidal wave of undisputable truth. President Obama de-classifies investigation information before leaving office. A bi-partisan commission is established to investigate. One discovery leads to the next, and direct coloration between the bigot-elect winning and egregious actions (by his campaign) to undermine the vote are revealed.

This will take time...

The Constitution (currently) does not provide for an election re-do, yet having a cyber-attack this catastrophic to our democracy is also unprecedented.

What would you say is the "realistic best" we could hope for? Impeachment? Lock them up? A constitutional amendment for a re-do election?

1. Impeachment is the most likely remedy, and probably the quickest.

A criminal trial would be more difficult, and constitutional amendments rarely succeed and take years even when they do.

How likely would that ever be?

as if there were enough honorable GOPers in Congress. There aren't, unfortunately. Watergate made a lot of Republicans turn against Nixon, but that kind of integrity seems pretty rare now.

As long as Trump reliably signs all the RW bills he gets over the next 4 years, the house will make sure nothing happens to him and the Senate will rubber stamp all of his cabinet.

A video tape of Trump and Putin (or top players from both regimes) was recorded (and revealed) of them exchanging bribes for power.

Truly, I don't think this is beyond the scope of possibility. Could the GOP ignore that?

Senators and Congressmen standing for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, all of our concerns are meaningless. Grassley and Chaffetz are not about to challenge Corporate America.

say they remove donnie. yippee, president pence.

say the right-wing media realizes pence's election is equally tainted (obvious, but this is the right-wing media we're talking about).... they remove him as well and we have president ryan (or republican president whoever if they appointed a new veep in between).

they still control everything.

just the same old song but to a different beat.

10. If proven, I'd be hard pressed to imagine any transfer of power

If proven, I'd be hard pressed to imagine any transfer of power. Having said that, I could envision a scenario in which Trump is forced to vacate the office, letting Pence replace him if (and only if) the GOP were to allow a vote of impeachment.

But to be absolutely honest, I simply do not think the GOP would adhere to any rule of law if it upsets their current majority. I do not think the Democrats would press so hard as to tip the balance of power, they'd move to that borderline, maybe even threaten that borderline, but not move beyond it without GOP acquiescence.

On edit: Of course, the media would be another fulcrum on which the national perspective would rest on. If the media pushed it for what it was, then maybe... maybe enough people would raise their fists in the air and say "enough."

I suppose this is our only real hope, that is unless a few rethugs could evolve out of the wingnut swamp and join the Dems to demand justice.

Whoever replaces Trump, Pence or Ryan, will become "acceptable"....and their proposals and policies will become "acceptable". That's far more dangerous.

Sometimes, the best thing to happen is to let someone/something fail horribly. Then the realization can occur.

Many will suffer with or without impeachment. Better to take the route that finally gets people to wake up.
