"God save us, because my party sure won't."

A moderate Republican comments on the Mobile Trumptree fiasco, and it's a keeper:

Homeschool Winner

As an Eisenhower conservative, I must apologize for the direction the GOP has gone, and the country as a whole. I stood by and did nothing, because I had a business to run. I didn't agree with Obama with a lot of stuff, but the main things - a social safety net, a working educational system, trade school programs - I did. Now, all of that is in jeopardy because my party let you guys down and elected an orange sociopath into office, with a vocabulary of a Dr. Seuss book, and makes just as much sense.

I saw my fellow conservatives lose their minds over a black man being president. That's all it was. It wasn't his political views, they were historically conservative. That's because the GOP has been hijacked. It has moved so far to the right that anyone that isn't an evangelical preacher probably won't get a foot in the door. These are your Roy Moore supporters, the ones who voted Bentley back into office anyway, despite complaining about him on these very forums - because the other guy's a "democrap". Sorry, But when push comes to shove, sometimes you gotta hold your nose and pick Blue. That doesn't make me a party traitor to say that.

Honestly, I don't see Trump lasting 4 years. Maybe 2 years? We'll have Pence as President for the remainder, and while his Anti-Union antics are so unrepublican (as far as I'm concerned), He isn't a two-faced crybaby with "something to prove".

And to all the people on here treating this like a sports win, Shame on you! That's not how politics should work - Politics should be about passing the torch from one to another - it should always be a net positive thing. Gloating and saying "bye homos" or other venomous tripe only labels you as the tribalist person you are. We are better than this, America. You had so many choices, New blood like Rubio, Rand Paul, Even "Lyin' Ted" would have been better than this. I can't believe that I miss Mitt Romney as much as I do, but I'll never see a real businessman with actual experience with dealing with complex fiscal responsibilities enter that White House, and sit at that Oval Office desk.

Call me a RINO all you want, It just lets me know how far gone my party is. Even Reagan would be a "lib" now. Bush, as incompetent as he was, at least had empathy. But that's not good enough for the Trump GOP - Empathy is a weakness, now. I've had about enough of it. To point to democrats and call them "libs" is not only ignorant, you're pointing to the past of your party when it was at its peak, and are openly mocking it. That's how far gone it is!

God save us, because my party sure won't.

GOP needs, lots and lots and...... You get the picture, right? I fear many Americans aren't going to wake up and "smell the roses," stinkweed, really, that this Rethuglican party has become. Maybe at onetime, as George Wallace said "there's not a dimes difference in the parties." Clearly that's not the case, and hasn't been for quite awhile.

as Bush II was, I would've felt safer with him than I would with Trump. At least he had more political experience and wasn't as easy to provoke. It's just pathetic that many people are treating this as a "win" how they helped elect someone who relied heavily on sloganeering rather than policy. All he had to do was act tough, constantly name-call his opponents (behind their backs), and fool people into thinking he was a "populist billionaire". The GOP has gone from Abraham Lincoln and Ike Eisenhower to a guy who was endorsed by the KKK and who pushed a racist birther conspiracy about the first Black president...let that sink in for a moment.
