The Apprentice was a scam put forth to the public in exchange for ratings, Pruitt said. We were entertaining, and the story about Donald Trump and his stature fell into some bizarre public record as truth.'
Their scam was so successful that it eventually got Trump all the way to the White House, although the president-elect has already signaled he doesnt really want to live there and would prefer to stay in the Manhattan apartment building with his name on it.
We are masterful storytellers and we did our job well, Pruitt said. Whats shocking to me is how quickly and decisively the world bought it. Did we think this clown, this buffoon with the funny hair, would ever become a world leader? Not once. Ever.
Pruitt said their hopes were more modest for the narcissistic mogul whose lewd (and) lascivious behavior was caught on video but not released before the election.
..............
Now that the lines of fiction and reality have blurred to the horrifying extent that they have, those involved in the media must have their day of reckoning, he said. People are buying our crap. Make it entertaining, yes. But make it real. Give them the truth or pay the consequences.

(13,081 posts)He was just doing his job, making crappy TV. There's no way anyone could have predicted this.
Seriously: if I'd told people in 2005 about the coming shit show that's been 2016, people would have locked me up for my own safety. A sane person could not have guessed the 2016 Shit Show would have happened, and I doubt most writers of fiction could have made it up.

(13,390 posts)I've never watched it, but my understand is that there is an episodic build-up to a point where people are humiliated to the delight of people watching it from home. I have thought for a long time that these shows were tapping something that would turn out to be very ugly from a sociological perspective.
So, people associate themselves with him to be- winners. Thus, anyone who doesn't support him and itself is a loser.
I bet at a very basic level there are people walking around who consider themselves to have not been fired by a great man unlike the rest of us.
The thing we have to be mindful of is that he did have some training. I am convinced that the things he does that seem dumb, irrational, or accidental could be more calculated.
Remember how working class individuals voted for and supported W? His language mistakes and Trumps spelling mistakes are endearing to people who know they might make the same ones themselves.
