http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/voter-turnout-2016-elections/Fourteen states installed new restrictive voting laws, which have historically targeted minorities, before the 2016 election, including in Wisconsin and Ohio. And this general election was the first since the Supreme Court struck down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act in 2013 that required federal approval on any state election law.
Neil Albrecht, executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission, said voter identification laws hurt turnout in the citys high-poverty districts this month, noting that 41,000 fewer people voted there in 2016 than in 2012
However, the Brennan Center for Justice, nonpartisan law and policy institute, said there has not been enough data collected to determine the laws impact on the election.
So.... how many votes did Clinton lose Wisconsin by?
This is a warning people; if we ran Obama JFK, FDR, Lincoln, RayGun and the RayGun dog all wrapped into one person they can STILL ... STILL ... STILL take these elections from us ...
The 2000 election was stolen the same way, 20,000 Americans were purged from the voter rolls in Florida using similar software as Cross Check... there would be no Bush if there was no voter suppression.
Like a laser we should focus on getting rid of this James Crow oppression that strips America of a progressive future.
Your take?

It's like they've been at this for a while, and we are honing our message instead of fighting the fight.

(90,370 posts)... to Clinton haven't spoke they punk ass's up?!
Simple high school math could project the effects of some of the voting suppression efforts in those states if the margins are close and that's when voter suppression is most effective.
In 2000 and now voter suppression was a main factor in the loss of the WH...
I'm not letting up on this issue, ride or die with it

(10,291 posts)just lick your wounds and hone your message. Ok...
The message is...these motherfuckers keep breaking the law and suppressing voters.

(3,975 posts)Gerrymandered, voter suppression on steroids here in WI and we just watched it happen. Why are we always 10 steps behind? Because we are not crooks and we are earnest and honest? Fuck that, look what we are up against. Our state has been burned to the ground. We will not reverse this stuff until after I am dead.

(4,858 posts)...how do we respond to quite literal attacks on the very basis of liberal democracy? Should blacks have taken up arms in 1877, to resist their disenfranchisement? Would a second Civil War have been too great a price to pay, to avoid the stain of segregation and a century of second class citizenship? If the GOP openly manipulates voting rights to ensure their permanent dominance...what should the Left's reaction be? I don't ask these questions because I claim to have the answers. But people--many people--have died to protect voting rights; to protect liberal democracy. What are we prepared to *do*?

(90,370 posts)...More dangerous one.
In this case call for voter restrictions that target mostly whites the same why the GOP is targeting PoC.
