What Bernie Sanders Said About Trump, Running For President In 2020: Vermont Senator Is On A Mission To Stop The DonaldCristina Silva
International Business Times
"You know, and I am not a guy in politics who really likes to attack viciously my opponents. Its not my style. But I felt obliged during the campaign to say something that was just patently true, and that is that Trump is a pathological liar," Sanders said during in a Democracy Now! interview in late November that was released on Monday. "And, you know, I mean, he was sayingand the danger is, it may beyou know, everybody lies. You know youre lying. But I fear very much that he may be not even knowing that he lies."
Sanders would not say whether he planned to run in 2020, noting that his focus right now is staying in the Senate.
"Four years is a long time. Ive got toyou know, Im going to be running for re-election most likely in two years for Vermont to the Senate. And theres just an enormous amount of political work that has to be done at thisat this moment," he said. "Politics is not about a person. We transform this country not by electing some guy or woman to be president; we transform this country when millions of people stand up and fight back. That will result in good leadership on top. So the goal right now is not to worry about whos going to be running in 2020 or 2080. The goal now is to mobilize millions of people around a progressive agenda."

(24,125 posts)This is no longer the time for vanilla-style politics... we need to go for the jugular and Bernie certainly has the intestinal fortitude for the job.
Keep your eye on Bernie... he's got your back!
Bernie might be non-committal, but I'm sure as hell not...

True and that would include Sanders.
Actual change doesnt come from the top down, it can only be brought about at the very local level.
Neither Trump nor Sanders are agents of change.
As for stopping Trump, that can be accomplished by communicating the truth and facts to the majority of the American people who oppose Trump and oppose the Republican agenda, where the people compel their elected representatives to indeed oppose that wrongheaded agenda.

YES, let's keep crying about how Hillary's opposition did what it was supposed to do during the primaries, and even more than that, he was the most civil opponent she could have.

(24,125 posts)Bernie's campaign was quite tame by comparison.
Bernie's exemplary leadership is what we need right now to unite the party and MOVE FORWARD!
Bernie & Elizabeth 2020!!!
He talked about issues that were important to a lot of people and garnered a great deal of support. How is discussing the issues and running a civil campaign not helping the world a better place?

To paraphrase Reagan, "The party left him, he did
not leave the party."
The Koch-backed corporate wing of the DP has been
a disaster for progressive policy, and for the party
itself.

(13,201 posts)The Blues Brothers notwithstanding, I don't think much of missions. "Fighting back?" Nonsense. He's putting the cart before the horse. The mission belongs to the grass roots and it is exactly one mission: unify. Not fight. Unify.
LiberalLovinLug
(14,179 posts)That doesn't fight back.
Good luck with that.

(13,201 posts)...and there's thrashing around in the quicksand. I love the idea of fighting back. I just don't like to lose. That's what we'll keep doing if we don't grow up and figure out a way to unite. It's not a movement without unity. It's not a fight if it's not a movement. It's just more getting beaten up.

(13,201 posts)If he's the only one leading charges, that's no good though. I'm hoping we hear from Obama once he is back in civilian life. Trump was supposedly going to try to build up a media empire if he lost. I would like to see Obama do that.

(13,081 posts)And his staffers were damn good organizers, which is how he pulled off so many wins in caucus states.
And I honestly don't get your point about unity and fighting back. Isn't the point of unifying to fight the lunatics who will be in power in a few weeks? "Unifying" is impossible without a shared end goal, not to mention totally and completely pointless.
gulliver
(13,201 posts)Not the other way around. The unity (commitment, loyalty, trust) forms the foundation that makes the goals real goals and not just words. Democratic Party unity needs to come first. Let's hope that Sanders (and Obama, Clinton, Warren, etc.) can help there.

(24,125 posts)Of course, in HER case, you would have been right! But, since Hillary, just short of 70 years old, WAS supported to run again, how bout we extend Bernie the same courtesy?
That's all I'm saying.

(6,979 posts)That statement by Bernie scares me to death.
**Preface this by saying: Assuming that we have the right to vote at ALL (Who knows how limited voting rights will become for Dems in 2018/2020 after we've been under a tRumputin DOJ for 2 years, and making another assumption that the votes we have will count--that's if there not purged, cross-checked, erased from Dem voting rolls or any other shenanigans from ruskie cyber-hacking like there was for this past GE).**
I've heard about the "You cannot get down in the mud with people" thing all of my life. But, when you have opponents like the thuglicans who are a soul less lot, you have to be willing to get just as nasty and ornery as they are. Bernie stating categorically that tRumputin is a pathological liar was a great start, but he has to dig into that asshole and the rest of the thuglican assholes, because you best believe that the thuglicans (Nazi Bannon et al) will be using every bit of opposition research they have and make op ON Bernie, and they'll just flat out LIE on him for the rest of the nasty things they'll be alleging him of. We have 95% of the "media" that is now firmly corporate and who don't care if you know about it per CNN & CBS executives. Anchors no longer bother with fact-checking what tRumputin or what thuglicans say--most of which has been or is nothing but lies. Of course when they bothered to cover Hillary (They gave tRumputin $2 Billion in free air time--couldn't break away from HIM as he bought them ad $$$--exciting covering an orange, lying, racist monkey throwing feces all over the place), they went full bore in on emails/CGI and ignored what her plans for POTUS would be which she laid out, and they really never bothered to cover Bernie at all.
Anyway, if Bernie does ultimately end up being the Dem or stays an Indy nominee (And nothing at this point would shock me even though IMHO Bernie would be too old), he and his team/surrogates better be ready for the press to stay repeating LIES and salacious opposition research dumps on him coming from the GOP, and he better be ready to get down in the mud with them and refute every lie they throw at him, meanwhile, keep touting his progressive/populist message. He/his camp have to fight fire with fire in that WAY. tRumputin never really laid out many plans about what he'd exactly DO as POTUS. tRumputin lied as he went along and is STILL lying about what his plans for the presidency ARE, although we as liberals KNOW it's not good for the working person, the poor, children, disabled, women, POC and those in need of help or who are not 1%'ers. Bernie IS a populist and tRumputin only pretended to be one (He tricked those who thought he'd be--buyer's remorse setting in already for some, meanwhile many tRumputin voters want to "blow up" everything). The GOP, with help from the "media" will try to turn Bernie into something that he ISN'T, and stay repeating lies, weaknesses, etc. tRumputin has shown himself as being married TO Goldman Sachs people--who surround him (Nazi Bannon) and are WELL represented in his gold_plated cabinet of deplorables. He's more than guilty of what he accused Hillary Clinton of---And that's being in bed with and married TO Goldman Sachs entities like he IS.
