This horrible year will not give it up. I just found out that our dear family friend died today. She was my mother's roommate at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital in 1956 when she gave birth to her daughter and my mom had my brother. No one wanted to room with her because she was African American. My mom thought that was ridiculous and offensive and roomed with her. They remained friends. For the last 60 years she remembered every birthday, every Anniversary, every holiday with a card to my parents, brother and me. She found Purim cards!! When my mom passed away in 1999, she came to her funeral and continued to send cards to my dad and to us. She was a kind, thoughtful and strong woman and I am heartbroken to learn of her passing.

I grieve for your loss but celebrate the inevitable passage of your friend.
Where she has gone, we must all inevitably follow.
