Many people believe that "fake news" played a big part in Hillary Clinton's loss in the last election.
From what I have noticed since the election is that the right wing are still going strong with their "fake news" and their posts ridiculing everything Democratic or liberal. They have barely slowed down.
Do we counter by ignoring them or simply stop posting on Facebook and the social media?
In my opinion, the next election, just like this one, will be greatly affected by social media, such as Facebook.
This is the new political battleground, in my opinion.
Perhaps we should flood this battleground with "facts" and pertinent information that will overwhelm the "fake news" distributors?
You will probably lose all your "friends", but if we do not counter, we can expect the fake news to rule the next election also.
Just my opinion.

Know from experience many Conservatives think Snopes and Wikipedia are Liberal controlled. This should show you how deep there emotional bias lies.

(7,669 posts)I am from deep red Georgia, as are most of the people I know. The one difference--they are Republican and I'm a Democrat. To avoid being socially ostracized, I keep my political views to myself as much as possible.

(11,760 posts)I read an article the other day, I think on Slate that "fake news" while not a good thing, is not the real problem. The author had stated that the right wing's successful campaign to decry once respected outlets (NY Times, Washington Post, etc...) as illegitimate has been more harmful to the discourse than fake news.
The author said that we have always had fake news. Just remember the Enquirer or other tabloids talking about Big Foot's baby, or Clinton being close to death, or gay, or both. Meanwhile, the right wing has convinced their followers that all news that does not fit into their mindset is not legitimate.
We do need to keep posting, but we need to make sure that we are not posting fake stuff and sticking to the facts.
