With No Warning, House Republicans Vote to Gut Independent Ethics Office

The surprising vote came on the eve of the start of a new session of Congress, where emboldened Republicans are ready to push an ambitious agenda on everything from health care to infrastructure, issues that will be the subject of intense lobbying from corporate interests. The House Republicans’ move would take away both power and independence from an investigative body, and give lawmakers more control over internal inquiries.

It also came on the eve of a historic shift in power in Washington, where Republicans control both houses of Congress and where a wealthy businessman with myriad potential conflicts of interest is preparing to move into the White House.

They are very predictable given we've seen this before in Wisconsin. The Supreme Court will be a target soon so we have no further legal recourse to fight them. Just like Walker/Koch's Wisconsin.

when republicans have power, they abuse it, as early and often as possible. their oaths, their constituents, the planet, ethics, all that means nothing. they can so they do.

it's like an avalanche and you just cannot get out of the way.

... just plain fear. They know they have the majority for now, but scandal will clearly be in the air, and what happens in the new Orange House and its administration may spill over. It may not be a plan to do something bad, but preparing for the fit hitting the shan in a big way, out of their control...

appears to be higher than mine. fear? that they'll get caught and have to pay. they're all craven scorched earth greed meisters and warmongers for profit. they know damn well they'll be doing something bad and they're trying to legalize their bad acts in advance so they don't have to pay any consequences.

The corrupt republicans are once again trying to harm our democracy by eliminating a government body that protects our democracy from corruption.

Oh wait...sorry not a story about Mariah Carey screwing up singing or Don Lemon a discredit to journalism for getting lit on tv? Then it's not newsworthy.

Honestly, if this got half the 1/4 the air time of the war on Christmas people would actually be pissed off. As long as tv pundits air the same thing over and over again with outraged guests, people will get all fired up about anything..because it was on the TV.

sanctioned for it. The sad part is that there is nothing that can done about it. They have cleared the path for the corrupt group who will govern with the corrupt president.
